A/N: Sorry it's been a while! I.... have no excuse really, and if you have a request that is still pending I am so so so I will write it eventually! Anyways, sort of obsessed with the Soulmate AU thing. Also, I think this fictional (As in not even close to cannon) dynamic between Peter and Harley is so cute so I've decided to write my own little one-shot thingy. Hope you enjoy it!

On the morning of Peter's twelfth birthday, he woke up feeling... different. He didn't know how else to describe it than he felt a little less alone in the universe. Though of course, at the time, Peter had been a twelve-year-old boy so instead he had marched right up to his Aunt May, who was still half-asleep at six o'clock in the morning, and said "Someone is inside my head. Get them out."
It took Aunt May a couple of mind-scrambling minutes before she finally figured out the "problem". She pulled Peter over to the living room couch, made herself a cup of coffee - because there was no way she was having this conversation so early in the morning without it -before finally telling Peter about a concept called soulmates.
At first, Peter had giggled, telling his aunt that she was crazy. Aunt May was patient though and explained to him that when the youngest of the two soulmates turned twelve a bond would form, linking their two minds together for the rest of their lives. Well, that is except for the few unfortunate pairs who experienced the death of a soulmate or were rejected by their soulmate but that almost never happened, right?
Wrong.
When Peter's Uncle Ben died Peter saw the psychical and mental toll it took on Aunt May, but it was the spiritual toll that hurt the most to see. He could see it in her haunted eyes, the way she was constantly playing music in the house, anything to fill the void of a presence she had lost in her head. Peter never wanted to feel like that. He never wanted to feel alone.
So when his soulmate - his stupid, awful soulmate - severed their connection for the first time since the ripe age of twelve, Peter lost it. One minute he was doing his school work in the library subconsciously aware of the presence in the back of his head and the next he was all alone. For the first time in years, he was well and truly alone. It was almost as if someone had turned off a light. The warm hum of activity that used to reside somewhere in the crevices of his subconsciousness suddenly vanished.
Peter didn't know what to do. He had run to the nearest restroom, locked himself in the first empty stall he could find, and started to cry. At first, it was a slow rhythmic tremor that grew into quiet sniffles that then lead to a violent, uncontrolled sobbing. He sat like that for over an hour until he finally gathered enough courage to unlock the stall door and walk out again. He avoided the mirror as he left the bathroom, grabbed his bag, and walked dazedly back to the apartment.
When May finally got home that evening he didn't cry, not again. He didn't have the tears left to cry. He was calm and detached as he explained the situation to her and when he finally finished May rushed toward him and pulled him into a warm, motherly embrace. It wasn't as nice as having his soulmate back but it was still good.
She hadn't given him an explanation as to what was happening - she didn't even know herself - but she hadn't needed to for in the middle of dinner that night his soulmate came back. Unlike last time it wasn't like flipping a switch. It was like a slow crawl back. Slowly but surely the presence returned, seeping back into his head like a sun rising over the horizon.
Peter dropped his fork. It clattered against the table, loud and sudden, making May jump in her seat. Peter didn't notice. His chair squeaked as he stood, leaving to retreat to his room and shutting the door closed behind him. He sat down on his bed, letting his attention fall to his soulmate and just his soulmate.
