A/N: My first requested one shot! I was so excited to write this. @shannon1300 had an amazing idea for a Merlin/OC and I was so happy because I loveeeee Merlin and the request was really interesting. I will say this is a bit longer than I intended it to be but I haven't written Merlin in a while and I guess I just got really swept up with the characters. Oopsie Daisy! Anyway, I hope this is similar to what you had in mind when you requested it. Enjoy ; )

Merlin and Arthur had left for negotiations with Agatine nearly four weeks ago. It was supposed to relieve the tensions caused by recent border skirmishes between the two kingdoms but about a week ago you received a personal letter from Merlin. In his letter, he had told you that the negotiations had turned south when Agatine's tyrant king, King Ruthebard, decided to forego peaceful compromise and mount an attack against Camelot's unsuspecting travel party.
Merlin had assured you that he and Arthur were safe and sound for the time being, much to both you and Gwen's relief, but that they were now trapped in a stalemate with King Ruthebard and his army at Whistler's Peak.
You knew the terrain there well since you and Merlin had made the trip through there several times during your visits back to Ealdor to see his mother. Whistler's Peak was a large cluster of rocky mountains just past Camelot's western borders. It had many caves and other places where one might hold camp or hideout. If they were stuck there it may take months to end the stalemate.
Luckily, you were wrong in your assumption that the fighting would last that long. Unluckily, you wouldn't like the way it ended.
Merlin had been watching Arthur talk battle strategy with the other knights for almost three hours now. They were trying to figure out a way to end the stalemate. The sooner the better as they hadn't exactly packed enough supplies to hold a stalemate in the mountains for very long.
Merlin could tell that Arthur was desperate to return to Camelot by the way he kept anxiously running a hand through his hair every time he thought no one was watching. Merlin couldn't blame him. He felt the same way. Arthur wanted to go back home to Gwen and he longed to go back and see you again. He had never intended to stay away from you for so long and it was killing him.
He missed seeing your face. He missed your smile and your laugh. He missed the way your eyes lit up with a childlike wonder every time he showed you his magic. You were the only one besides Gaius who knew about his gift but he knew he could trust you with his secret. After all, he was utterly and completely in love with you. How could he not trust you? What he had felt with Freya seemed like child's play compared to the way he felt for you. You guys had something special, something greater than anything he had ever shared with anyone else.
His destiny may be intertwined with Arthur's but his heart and soul only belonged to you.
"Merlin!" Arthur snapped, drawing him from his dazed stupor.
"Yes, Sire?"
"Oh, I get a 'yes sire', do I? You must be out of it," Arthur quipped, "Now are you going to just stand there, or are you going to join me in launching this attack?"
"Attack?" Merlin said questioningly, making Arthur groan in frustration.
"Yes Merlin," Arthur growled, "You know, the attack we're about to mount against this psychopathic king?"
"Psychopathic," Merlin sounded, "That's four whole syllables, Arthur. Well done!"
"Listen to me, Merlin," Arthur hissed, stepping up so that he was now in Merlin's face. He pointed an accusing finger at him. "I'm going to let that slide but only, and I mean only because I know how too much time away from Y/n makes you too snarky to handle. How I got on with you before her is beyond me. Now, are you going to help me to get us home or not?"
