"Can i ask you for a favor, Destiny?"
******
I stayed silent for as long as i could. The sentence took a while to sink in, and as it did it slowly ruined my peace. I looked at his direction but he wasn’t looking back. Each one of his hands rested on each thigh, his eyes were gazing at the sky in front of us, and his breaths were quiet and slow.
"What favor?" I finally asked.
"Don’t answer the question with a question." He stated.
"I have to know if I’m able to do this favor before I answer your question." I replied back looking at his side profile.
"Then i should change my question." He moved his face towards my direction. "What’s your limit for a favor for me?"
"I,," i hesitated, "I dont know. Uhm, it depends on so many things." I raised my shoulders.
"Are favors ever limitless?" He inquired looking again to the sky.
"Ah, i gue-" He raised his index to stop me from talking.
"I dont want an answer." He mumbled.
"What was that favor anyway?" I asked scratching my chin pretending not to really care much.
"I asked can I ask you for a favor; i never said there is a favor." He replied. I wanted to slap him afterwards.
"Are you being serious right now?" I asked shaking my head. "You should go to a psychologist you know. I happen to have a neighbor who’s a psychologist, you should pay him a visit." After finishing my sentence Kayl moved his head a little bit towards me, not enough to have an eye contact with me though. His face looked focused i got worried that something’s up with the plane.
"Maybe i should." He said finally after a long wait. "Is he good though?"
"I dont know." I knitted my eyebrows. "Uhm, i just moved to that apartment and i dont know that much about him."
"And did he also just move to his apartment?" He tilted his head.
"I,, don-,,, I don’t know." I admitted, "why are you asking?" He replied by shaking his head a little and then going back to focusing at the view in front of us.
For the rest of the flight nothing happened, Kayl remained silent while swifted and drifted among my thoughts. We landed back in L.A safely, the plane wasn’t full so the passengers were out real quick. We all headed to the locker rooms to change and leave, every one of us was really tired after the long day so we all said goodbye and just headed to our homes. I didn’t pay much attention to what Kayl was doing, mostly because i was too tired to do so.
I got in my car hoping from god that I wont make an accident as I barely could keep my eyes opened despite the nap i took back in the hotel. I headed to my parents’ house, my apartement seemed a little bit too empty and I was a little bit too lazy to handle tiding it up. Passing the key in to the key hole so slowly and quietly made me feel like a theif, and then i tiptoed my way up the stairs and in to my room.
Threw my bag on the couch, changed in to whatever I found in front of me, and collapsed on the bed. I was five seconds away from falling in to hella deep sleep as I turned around on my side and just before closing my eyes I glanced an unfamiliar box on my night stand, and that’s when I got in to a mini internal conflict: should I open the box now and feed my curiosity or should I ignore it for now and fall asleep.
And of course, my curiosity won. I got up just enough to reach the box and put it on my lap. It was sent to me by mail! Aha! That’s the box my mum told me about. But how did she get it ? I remember her telling me that the mail man left cuz I wasn't there to sign on receiving. Well that was odd, but maybe my mother had signed it on my behalf, but then again, who cares? I had a box and I wanted to know what's in it.
Opening the box felt like i was unleashing a bomb, and perhaps that was the case. In it there was a picture, just a single picture ripped from it’s right side,,, a picture of Kayl. I guess that was his "Arsen" phase, he had short hair, smaller body structure, and his beard wasn’t as perfectly shaved as it always is now. I stared for a while at the picture still not freaking out cuz of it, but that wasn’t it. There was a young lady standing next to him, probably a couple of years younger than him. He had his arm around her back with his hand resting on her shoulder, while her right arm was around his waist. The girl’s left arm was next to her, she was holding another guy’s hand. That was the guy that his part of the picture was ripped. All I could see was his shoulder.
They both were smiling, and happy I assume. My first conclusion was that this girl was kayl’s friend,, but no. They both have the same green eyes and perfect teeth, the resemblance was so clear I could swear she’s his sister. I looked so deep in to the picture trying to find a special thing or a sign of something suspicious but it was just a completely normal picture. I looked closer, as carefully as possible. I turned on my high focus mode, checking the picture as close as possible. After about 15 minutes of staring I came up with two conclusions. The guy who i can’t see his body has a birth mark on his shoulder that resembles an uneven circle. But that wasn’t it, that girl holding his hand -the one I assume to be Kayl’s sister -was wearing a ring in her ring finger,,, a diamond ring. Anyone with a little bit of brains inside his skull would deduce that this is Arsen, his sister, and her fiancè.
Oooh man!
Is it just me or does this riddle keep on getting complicated? This is like too much, driver licenses and old photographs and hell a lot of secrets and mystries. Why? Why all of this? Like is it just someone messing around, or is it more serious than I can expect it to be?
I fell asleep with the picture on my lap: I couldnt stop thinking about it, neither could I stop worrying about the truth behind this whole thing. A bunch of weird ass dreams haunted my tired night, I didn’t manage to deduce anything wired, neither could i pretend that this is completely fine. I also couldn’t make my mind up on whether or not should I confront Kayl about all of this, I kind of just pushed it to the back of my mind and decided to not do so.
The next morning was a little bit fresher. The sun was shinning and the weather wasn’t as cold as always. Apparently the end of November got it’s charm. I got up after looking again at the picture and went to wash my face. My hair got a little longer since the last time I’ve carefully checked. I remember how hard it was for me to take the decision of even cutting the split ends as a child.
I put on my uniform shirt and pants and held the jacket and the cap in one hand and my bag in the other. I got down stairs my parents where having breakfast and me getting in to the kitchen caught both their attentions.
"Good morning." I said with a big smile on my face.
"Good morning Des," my mom. "Good morning sweetie." Followed by my dad, "how was your flight?" He asked.
"It was nice." I guess so.
"Where to today?" My mom asked narrowing her eyes.
"Washington,DC." I replied.
A bunch of normal conversations followed, they aren’t worth mentioning though. I got myself together and got in to my car and drove to the airport. When I got in to the parking lot I parked my car in the first empty place I found. I got out of the car then turned around to grab my cap from the passenger’s seat. As I turned around to start walking, I slammed in to someone.
