A night with Arsen Kellar in his place. Seems unreal, right? Yeah, I thought so too. It was about 10pm when my cozy calm night with Arsen took a different turn. We were cuddling on his bed, a couple of mumbles every once in a while, and frankly all I really needed was his presence.
"You want something to eat?" He asked getting up.
"Yeah sure why not?" I agreed reaching for my phone to check my messages when I noticed that my battery is running low so I looked for a charger. I opened the night stand drawer (shhh dont tell me that's not appropriate) and I saw pills. What pills do you take Arsen? Ambien. Ambien? Sleeping pills?
That day at his house in Paris, I fainted and it didnt feel like a sugar comma, but no no no. It can't be. He wouldn't give me sleeping pills, would he? Arsen, would you?
"I made you a sandwich, peanut butter." He smiled. He looks like a kid when he innocently smiles, how can I not fall for this smile? How can I not forgive this man? Tell me how?
"Mmm, you pamper me too much." I smiled taking the sandwich from him and putting it on the nightstand. "Can you also get me a charger my phone battery is dying."
"It's downstairs, by the coffee table." He said pursing his lips. "Ugh."
"Alright, I'll go get it." I stated heading towards the door when he grabbed my forearm.
"No sneaking around." He said in a straight tone.
"What?" I inquired raising my eyebrows shocked.
"You heard me." He replied looking me in the eyes. "I like my privacy, please respect that." I nodded in reply with no words to say.
Oh Arsen, is it your really just privacy or are you hiding a secret too bad to he exposed?
I headed downstairs grabbed the charger and got right back up. I was too scared to even look around me as I walked, I was scared I'd see something suspicious or get curious cuz of a lead and I'd stupidly rush to check it out then end up getting caught. The atmosphere was always tense around him, and I never managed to learn how to deal with it.
"I walked in a line straighter than I am." I sarcastically said crawling on the bed next to him.
We ate the sandwiches he made us. In every moment of silence a little evil idea would start to rise in my mind, I'd shush it with a joke or a laugh. But who was I kidding? Once an evil idea forms in the mind, I just have to get it out. And I did.
"Arsen." I said playfully with a smirk.
"Uh-hum?"
"Can I maybe see a picture of Harry?" There was no other way to tell him that Harry is disguised as Jake my neighbor.
"Why?" He added. "Oh wait don't answer, curious? Not a big deal? No pressure hehehe?" He mocked me.
"Alright fine, don't show me a pic of your sister's husband." I laughed, he sighed.
"Fine Des, there's a photo album in my office room, I'll go get it. Spend the night staring at my sister's ex husband pics, see if I care." He headed to his office room and came back with a photo album and threw it on my lap as I was sitting on an armchair and he sat on the bed.
I dug in at the instant, planning my fake shocked reaction when I see Harry/Jake. And there was no time to hesitate, it's now or never.
"Jake?!" I gasped. "Arsen that's your sister's husband?!"
"What? Jake who?" He came over to me got on his knees in front of me to get better view. "What are you talking about?"
"This man! This man is your sister's ex?!" I muttered. "This is Harry?"
"Yes, yes! This is fucking Harry, what is your problem?!" Arsen yelled with curiosity popping out of his eyes.
"This man also happens to be Jake, my neighbor Jake." I threw the bomb. And waited for the explosion.
"Shit! Shit. SHIT!!" He scowled his face furiously. He started pacing around the room with both his hands on his head. "That fucking arsehole!"
"It's okay calm down." I came from behind him and wrapped my arms around him. "Sh-shhh just calm down."
"Did he ever talk to you about something?" He asked facing me.
"Well,,," I may or may have told him that you and I were dating before we ever did. What can I say? "Uhmm,, yeah, sorta."
"Sorta?! What does that mean? What did you tell him?!" Arsen was yelling at me and I was a bit or two intimidated.
"I told him you and I are together." I paused to see his reaction, but there was none to be seen. "I tried to tell you. I really tried, but you told me if it's gonna make you angry don't say it."
"If it's gonna make me angry don't say it." He nodded with an evil/angry smile on his face. "If it's gonna make me angry don't say it. Don't fucking say it."
"I'm sorry."
"You're sorry?" He paused. "Yea you should be. I tried to keep you safe, but you never had any business with keeping yourself safe."
"What does that mean?" I shook my head.
"This man,, thinks I ruined his life. His number one goal is to ruin mine." He added in a lower voice. "And to ruin anyone in my life."
"But you,, you said you can keep me safe. You said you'll protect me." I shrunk away from him. I can't dare lie and say I wasn't afraid; I was always afraid all along, but it hit me differently that time.
"You walked in to it all without knowing I'll protect you." He added. "And you didn't believe me when I said it was serious."
"And you still promised to try and protect me." I completed. "And I didn't know my neighbor is the enemy who wants to destroy your life."
"Yeah, Des, I didn't know either." He pursed his lips with a look of disappointment on his face.
I didn't totally understand what sort of harm he was talking about. What's the worst thing they would do, kill me? Was that an option? What were the options? I bet you're all thinking, just fucking ask him, Des. I didn't want to know, I didn't want to hear it. Facing the truth wasn't on my to-do list, at least not yet.
Frankly, I had a more important problem to worry about at the time.
At 11:20 pm on the 1st of January 2020 I received an e-mail from the Sky Airline.
Subject: Annual Medical checkup due 2nd of January 2020.
My diabetic ass is officially screwed..
