Should I stay or should I go

After I agreed on Kayl’s invitation to go to his house it was time to pick out something to wear. All I had in mind was to dress up casually just I always would in normal occasions but I couldn’t resist but picking out a fancy blue shirt that I kept for special smart-casual occasions. As I was on the way to his house I couldnt even predict the reason why he wanted me to see him, neither could i stop calling myself an easy bitch for instantly agreeing on this. Oh my god I really was an easy bitch. I couldnt just go to his house simply because he wanted me to, what type of shit am I getting myself in to? I parked by the side of the road ignoring the people complaining about my sudden drift. I picked my phone up and typed down a text message for Kayl:

"I won’t be able to make it to your house, we can maybe meet outside somewhere?" I hit send.

I knew so well that Kayl won’t bother to even reply to me, and if he did it’d be with something lame as fuck that will piss me off more than it’ll stop me from questioning my decision. A few minutes later and Kayl still hasn’t replied yet, i started the engine and drove back in the direction to my house knowing that the wait will only waste time. I was beyond glad i managed to make that decision. "You were going to make a fool out of yourself." I scoffed feeling relieved knowing that i wasn’t so desperate. After about 10 minutes i received a notification from Kayl, so I pulled over to read it. "Where?" It read.

Kayl really wanted to see me. I can’t get in to words how I felt about this, it was like waiting for a dead person to get back to life and now suddenly his heart is beating again. I freaked out a little, as far as I thought he wasnt going to give a fuck about me and now he’s seeking for our meeting. And of course all the names of places in town disappeared from my mind and I failed to think of a proper place to meet him. So i just chose the easiest most common option there is: Starbucks.

I grabbed the phone and sent him a message: "Starbucks?" And then we wait. He replied back with an "ok" so i turned on my car engine and changed my direction back away from home and towards Starbucks. Knowing so well who I’ll be meeting got my mind wandering in circles, there were so many possibilities and so many scenarios. I hated myself for having a wide imagination but anyone at my place would have suffered through the same. After a while of driving and hella lot of thinking I was in front of Starbucks, the place where the first meeting between Kayl and I that happened with his own approval and planning.

A while passed and then Kayl showed up in his blue Maserati which never seizes to impress me or anyone who sees it. I got out of the car balling my fists anxious about what that meeting can bring. We had an eye contact followed by a slight duck by both of us.

"Hello Kayl." I smiled as I approached him.

"Destiny." He said opening the door letting me in then himself. He then stood a side leaving me room to choose a table to sit by, i ended up -as usual- choosing the loneliest most isolated table and we sat by it.

The waiter came before we got the chance to even talk, he handed us the menu. "I’ll have tea." Kayl said handing the menu back to the waiter without even opening it. I sort of felt obligated to order something at the spot just like he did. "I’ll have a coffee, with milk." I mumbled feeling a little awkward. The waiter took off and Kayl and I were left in complete silence for a while. He was looking out of the window next to us narrowing his eyes every once a while as if he’s looking for something, or perhaps someone. I gave him a chance to talk, start a conversation, look at me, or even do anything normal for a bit but of course he didn’t. Eventually i decided to initiate the conversation.

"So you wanted to talk." I said raising my eyebrows.

"And I shall." He nodded a couple of times still looking towards the window. And then nothing. A big fat nothing! A few minutes later, our orders arrived. He put one packet of sugar in his tea, then stirred it without making any sound, afterwards he took a sip, placed the cup back on the table, and then looked me dead in the eyes.

"Have you heard the rumours?" He asked.

"What rumours?" I tilted my head a bit feeling confused.

"Everyone thinks something is going on between us." He stated quietly and I was greatly offended.

"Is that why you got me here now?" I asked in a slightly loud volume. "You’re annoyed about rumours going on around us,, around you actually!" I paused waiting for his reaction. "Well sir you’re free to go ahead and prove them all wrong if it concerns you so much; it’s not that I want anything to do with you anyways." He reacted to what I did in a cold way as always with a bit of irony on his face.

"It does not concern me a bit, nothing in fact does." He admitted calmly. "And you showed up so don’t tell me you dont want anything to do with me because it’s obviously not the case here. And all i want to say is, as long as people think something is going on between us these weird packages will keep being delivered to you so if you want them to stop you have to stop talking to me too." His words were in perfect order and annoyingly organized, I didnt have the vocabulary required to reply neither did I have the power to answer.

"Stop?" I hesitated. "Rumours? Wha,,, w- what do you want now?"

"Don’t you get it?" He asked getting his face closer to me, "those things that have been sent to you anonymously are being sent for a reason."

"Okay okay I get it." I nodded. "It’s my fault and now they think we’re a thing and they wanna get back at you through me." I paused waiting to take his approval for my conclusion, he didn’t say anything so I took this as a yes. "But why? Like why would someone want to hurt you or whoever you cared about that much?"

"Why is non of your concern, the only thing you should be concerned with now is that if you want this whole nightmare to end-"

"It’s not a nightmare." I interrupted him. He was looking at me and didnt break the eye contact even after I said what I said.

"If you want this to end go ahead and walk away, completely this time and then you’re free and they’ll start looking for someone else. Not that they’ll find anyone." He admitted and I was left speechless.

I was pretty sure that I only understood 10% of what was going on, I wasnt craving for more but I still had a hard time backing down now. For me, it was like this competition with an unknown power that I involuntarily got involved in. And it was Kayl who got me there. I personally cant find myself a logical excuse for why I actually cared that much or why am I making a big deal out of leaving him, but I was; and there was nothing I could do about it.

"Do you have to face this, whatever it is, alone?" I asked as he drank some tea.

"I’m not facing anything." He completed, "and if I am, it’s my drama to deal with." I had no more excuses to stick around. He gave me the goodbye sign on a plate of silver and there was nothing expected from me but to leave. I have decided to do that already so it was not supposed to be a problem to me anymore.

"Alright then." I sighed, "that’s it I guess. I will not talk to you again." I thought that I should get up and leave but I just didn’t want to; leaving felt like the easiest solution and I never choose the easy solution. I’m a warrior, or so told me my 5th grade English teacher, and warriors dont just walk away.

"What’s the worst scenario that can happen?" I asked rubbing the bridge of my nose.

"Scenario." He smirked sarcastically. "I don’t know what that might be."

"Aha." I nodded, "thanks for letting me know. I’ll get going now I guess." I grabbed my phone, stood up and put it in my pocket while Kayl was still looking out of the window, and just before I walked away Kayl stood up and grabbed my arm pulling me softly towards him.

"Or stay." He whispered in my ear.

And my whole world froze.
