And now my door was knocking,, i wondered what other surprises were waiting for me behind it.
*****
I got up and opened the door to find Jake in front of me. Speak of the devil.
"Hello neighbor." He smiled to me nicely. See! Nicely,, why did Carol call him unfriendly?
"Hey," I smiled back after deciding to not trust him much, "how’s everything?" I asked.
"Great,, uhmm, everything’s very good." He replied putting one hand in his pocket. "What about you?"
"I’m fine, just got back from the airport actually." His smile got straight afterwards and formed a concerned expression.
"Oh so sorry for disturbing then. You must be very tired." He shaked his head.
"No no it’s okay. Tell me what’s up?" I asked.
"Nothing i just came back from work too actually,, was going to grab a coffee and thought maybe you’d like to join."
"Oh that’s so sweet of you." Too nice, Carol, too nice, "I would love to join you actually." I replied.
I didn’t want to hang out that much, neither was i that in to Jake but i guess going with him would help me find out about this coincidence of him moving in a couples of days before me. Also, maybe we’d end up being friends since he’s my neighbor it’d be useful to have a friend nearby. Not to mention the fact that it’s weird he’s being so nice to me, i just had to make sure this didnt have any intentions behind it. Grabbed my phone and followed Jake out of the building. We walked for a while in quietness; I didnt ask where we were going as i simply assumed the green dove was our destination.
"So," I said, "how was work?" Didnt really have many options to talk about.
"Work was good,, the usual you know." He rubbed the bridge of his nose, "I’m not really allowed to share much of what happens in work." He said sarcastically.
"Oh yeah of course integrity and common trust, i respect that." I nodded.
"Thank you very much." He laughed, "what about you, where were you today?"
"Washington. And not much happened either." Other than almost fainting, "we stayed there for few hours anyways."
"Welcome back." He said as we entered the Cafè. The table we sat on last time was empty so we found our way to it and sat there. The idea of that party hit my mind and i blacked out for a second there.
"What’s wrong?" Jake wondered.
"No nothing’s wrong, i,, uhh,, got something on my mind."
"Like to share?" He tilted his head, "I am a psychologist, maybe i can help."
"Well there’s this party being thrown related to work, supposed to be a big deal. Kind of worried about it." I tucked a string of hair behind my ear.
"Aha," he nodded, "you should be happy about that though."
"Yeah i know, i just,, i don’t know. It’s just on my mind."
"It’ll be great dont even worry about it; you’re a big girl you’ll handle it." He smiled, "I’ll go give them our order, two coffees?" He asked so i nodded in reply.
I waited for him to be back as i thought of ways to ask him when he moved to his appartment and why. I had to put my mind in ease about this matter; what if he’s a stalker. Chill Des.
"I’m back." He said as he took his seat back.
"Uhmm, Jake tell me." I completed, "do you know any good supermarkets around here? Or you don’t know the area well yet?" Good one Des.
"No no i know the area,, there’s a one close to the building just around the corner. I’ll show it to you on our way back." He still didnt give me the answer i was looking for.
"How long have you been in that aparetment?" I thought taking a straight path was the best choice.
"Uhmm not so long, dont remember exactly how long to be honest." He laughed, "there are more important things in life."
"Yeah i agree." I nodded.
"But it’s pretty cool that a young lady such as yourself would choose to live in a small apartment all by herself." He said,, well it’s not weird but when you say that way.
"I guess i was sick of living with my parents. For a change you know." I said. Jake got me feeling like he was interrogating me which pretty much made me uncomfortable.
"You don’t go out much though. Like work and then back home huh?" I was under so much unexplained stress back then, mostly because of my conversation with Carol.
"No no i go out,, you probably dont notice after all i just moved in. That doesn’t give you much time to know my movement schedules." I shaked my head with the fakest smile on my face.
The coffee came afterwards we took a while to taste it,, the coffee in here really is something. He then asked me a question that forced me to answer something that’ll give it a very interesting u-turn.
"So Cap,, you seeing someone?" Well let me inform you what crossed my mind at that moment. So,, he’s my neighbor, he’s single, he’s hot, i didn’t remove the possibility of him being a stalker yet, he’s being oddly curios about me, and i would rather die than seem like an easy target.
"Yes!" I lied. Don’t judge please.
"And if i may ask,, who’s that lucky man?" Yeah yeah yeah imma bitch right now.
"He’s a pilot with me in my crew." I paused and tried my best not to say more but failed. "Kayl,, his name is Kayl." I thought i could stop now but i sort of freaked out so i continued, "kind of a badass you know. The tough type if you know what i mean."
"Lovely,, would love to meet him sometime." He smiled nicely and i was relieved for a while. I guess mentioning Kayl just keeps me safe in some way,, even after my decision to let him go i just couldnt help but getting him involved in my life. Not so much for throwing him behind my back i guess.
Jake and i were done drinking our coffees not so long afterwards and then we walked back home together. I got in to my house changed and laid on the couch until i fell asleep. It was a peaceful nap, even though i was asleep i could still feel the inner quietness that I’ve been longing for in a while. But since I’m jinxed to forever be in a hassle i was woken up by my phone ringing, is anyone else sick of this? Cuz i know i am!
I mumbled a bunch of complaints under my breath as i searched for my phone, but i put a sock in it when i realized it was Kayl calling! Just when i was about to let him go he decided to not do so. I put my phone on the table in front of me and decided to miss that phone call. "You are not picking this up Destiny." I said to myself. But it kept ringing, what if it was an emergency? What if he needed to talk and i was his only option? Ugh, i cant!
"Hello." I said to Kayl on the phone.
"Hello," he said after a short pause, "i would like to talk to you about something."
"Sure tell me."
"I cant through the phone, can you come over?" He said.
Was that a booty call? Or did he wanna kill me? Is he going to rape me? Why now? Why at all?! Screw this!
"Yes sure." I stated.
