In a flash, Thanksgiving break was over and it was already December. Chase had been walking to school with Alicia ever since Thanksgiving, continuing to wear their matching backpacks from Black Friday. When they reached school, a banner hung at the entrance notifying that the Christmas Dance this Friday, two days from then.

"Hmmmm. That artwork looks familiar." Chase thought.

"Whatcha thinking about, dummy?" questioned Alicia.

"W-w-what?" stuttered Chase, "How did you-"

"You have this goofy expression whenever you are thinking about something." retorted Alicia, "It's really obvious."

Wanting to change the subject, Chase asked, "Why don't you go to the dance with Michael? You said something about it to me on Thanksgiving."

"It wasn't meant fo-" She stopped herself. "Let's get to homeroom, you dope."

Chase thought that was pretty suspicious, but they did have to get to homeroom. He checked his watch, which read 5 minutes before class. They sprinted in as the bell rang.

"You were almost late," an unfamiliar voice said. "Good thing I don't have to mark you for being late."

"Huh!" exclaimed Chase and Alicia, as they saw a young female teacher standing in front of them

"So you must be Chase and Alicia.  Mrs. Emily told me about you two." said the teacher. " You two seem like good kids. My name is Miss Schmidt. and I will be subbing in for your homeroom teacher."

Alicia and Chase looked at each other with a confusion as they turned to down.

"Love your matching backpacks by the way!" called Miss Schmidt.

Chase's ears turned red, and Alicia blushed as everyone turned their heads toward them, and saw that they indeed had matching backpacks. Before things got more uncomfortable for the two, Mrs. Schmidt told the class to sit down.

"Alright, class, I have some announcements to make. Mrs.Emily will be out for the two weeks, due to a recent bowel surgery she had over break. She asked me to ask you guys if their were any volunteers to make banners for Reina and the tennis team's match at the country club on Saturday." informed Miss Schmidt.

"I volunteer!"  Lukas said immediately.

"Chase. Ethan. Michael. You in?" he continued with puppy eyes.

"Fine..." Ethan groaned standing up, knocking down 3 chairs and a desk in the process.

"I guess so..." grumbled Chase.

"Let's do it!" enthusiastically exclaimed Michael.

"Then, Alicia, Ren, and I will join!" volunteered Eliana.

"Say what?" questioned Alicia.

"Of course, Reina will supervise the design." continued Eliana not giving a second thought about Alicia's feelings.

"Perfect, We have more than enough!" Miss. Schmidt said cheerfully.

The day went on as Chase and his friends brainstormed ideas for the banner.

"What if we did a giant tennis ball?" started Lukas.

"More like a giant heart for you!" retorted Chase.

"Looks who's talking. You have Alicia anyway-"

Eliana cleared her throat. "What if we did a normal banner with crossing tennis rackets?"

"Nah, It would makes us look like a warcult." Reina said.

"What if we do a banner with 'GO WICKHAM JR HIGH!'" suggested Ren.
