jin sat at his kitchen table, crossing his ankles and scrolling through his instagram feed, waiting for namjoon to come and pick him up. he felt his heart banging away with nerves in his chest and his stomach tightening with butterflies; he only wanted namjoon's first date to go well, was it too much to ask?
it wasn't like he didn't know namjoon well enough anyway. it was barely even like a first date, and jin forced himself to calm down.
the harsh ringtone of his phone still made him jump though, and he answered breathlessly, namjoon telling him to come outside. he obliged, and found his car, with namjoon leaning against the bonnet.
jin's heart hopped in his chest at such an adorable sight. namjoon stood and straightened himself out slightly, wearing the softest coffee-brown grandpa coat, big old worn-out brown boots, baby blue jeans, and a huge white and grey checkered scarf covering his chest to his nose. a little flash of washed-out cotton candy pink hair was just about visible on the giant sized teddy bear.
jin could've cursed under his breath at how effortlessly cute and stylish he looked. the big friendly giant, he thought, and his heart whispered 'mine' as he swooned.
it was unfair that namjoon was able to pull everything off, he decided.
be it his black jeans and leather jacket, which was his typical attire when he they were together, the one time they'd been on a face call and namjoon was wearing a dress shirt (his sister's engagement), even just a plain tee and joggers, and now this?
his heart ached in protest. it must be his long legs and torso, jin concluded in his mind, finally reaching him.
"hyung." namjoon's eyes twinkled. "sorry i'm late, i couldn-"
jin waved off his excuses with his hand. "it's fine, joonie," he said, a soft smile appearing on his lips as he realised he let the nickname slip. suddenly, he was nervous. the kim seokjin was nervous.
hella.
"sorry, should i not call you that?" he asked anxiously when namjoon didn't say anything, and he rubbed his clammy hands on his jeans, suddenly self conscious.
then suddenly-
namjoon's famous eye smile appeared."shush, hyung," he said, "i just had to relish that moment. please keep calling me that."
today, it didn't take much to sway stubborn jin.
*********
the first ten minutes of their date had been awkward.
namjoon wasn't going to deny it. it hadn't been awkward when jin had come over, or when he'd been to jin's, but when it came to a real formal - well, not formal, but you know what i mean - date, they were both too nervous to break the ice.
until they got to the cafe, and jin saw that they made "apple and blueberry crumble with roasted almond and peanut topping" and he lost any shame that he'd been trying to conserve.
despite the uncomfortable small talk that both boys had tried to hold in the car previously (even jin was struggling to talk about the weather), almost eight minutes later, there was not a trace of unease lingering in the air. both idiots were laughing a bit too loudly, lost in each other's presence, found in each other's eyes.
they were unbothered by the weird stares that they were getting from the customers of the quiet shop, ignoring them to listen to each other.
they'd taken one of whatever jin was having, and for once the greedy hyung was willing to share. despite his mouth watering, he took a little bit on a spoon and decided to feed his date first.
