Thor wanted so desperately to get a cup of Midgardian coffee that Loki had no choice but to join him. The whole thought of it made him gag. The whole 'coffee culture' had never made sense to him. Why you would wait in a long line to purchase something that didn't taste good only to sit down in a public place to drink it was beyond him. He was still grieving, and a coffee shop on Midgard was the last place he wanted to be.
It wasn't long before he noticed the girl in the corner. She was lovely in every conventional sense, and though she was rather plain and kept to herself, she oozed confidence. It was magnetic. It was only when he went to take a dip in the waters of her mind that he truly became interested. He looked at her, filled with wonderment. He didn't think it were possible to resist his powers, and yet a mortal on Midgard was doing a fine job. Her mind was a steel trap.
He couldn't help himself but stare, and it took him a while to notice that the sound of conversation had completely disappeared. He leaned forward waving a hand in his brother's face, stopped in time along with the rest of the small cafe. She waited for him to notice her, lazily turning a page of her book.
Suddenly he snapped out of his bewilderment and stepped toward her.
"I never met a mind I couldn't reach." Her voice was like silk and her eyes gleamed with curiosity as she looked up into his.
"N-nor have I," he stuttered, stopping just shy of her table. "How-"
"A beautiful anomaly in the human gene. It's called a mutation." She smiled, closing her book and folding her hands. "We might all be mortal, but if you think yourself above us you are seriously mistaken, Mr. Loki. So with all due respect, why don't you go crawl back under whatever rock you've been hiding under since you attacked us."
"I am not-I did not-" he faltered, floundering for the correct words, unable to penetrate her thoughts. It was like running into a brick wall. "Who are you?"
"My name is Asta." She glared daggers at the tall god.
"I am not who I was. I'm out to help. My brother-Thor, he-" She waved her hand dismissively and the room limped back to life.
"I hear you. Though you are the god of lies, how should I know to trust you?"
He floundered for a moment, gaping at the girl in front of him.
"You have a point, Miss Asta."
He returned to his confused brothers side and they ordered their drinks, stealing another glance at her while he sprinkled vanilla onto his tea latte. He'd been trying constantly to tap into her mind, but yielded no results. Just as they stepped out the door he could feel a fog wash over him.
"You were a tough one to crack, I'll admit. Though I did think you'd be more of a challenge. All minds surrender eventually, whether they belong to a god or not."
