She was the last to take a seat, and she plopped on the small couch near the corner, right next to Loki. Nobody on the team sat near him, and she was a little heated about it. He placed his hand on her knee briefly, feeling her anger. Sam moved to sit on a chair between her and Natasha, bridging the gap between them and the rest of the group.
"Asta I'm pretty sure you scared all our guests off," Tony chuckled, tossing back another drink.
"Oh they loved it Tony. Trust me." She tapped her temple knowingly to drive home her point, and silence fell over the group.
They hadn't all spent time together ever, really. Steve was almost always preoccupied with finding his old friend Bucky, Bruce was always working on something. Natasha preferred to be on her own. Sam and Tony were practically the only people her and Loki saw on a regular basis, and as good of a guy as Sam was, he still didn't tend to talk to both of them together.
Very little conversation was made and awkward silences plagued the team. Pretty soon Asta and Loki were the only ones left in the lounge, along with the cleaning staff, who ran around picking up cups and sweeping up shattered glass. He shifted to face her on the couch and conjured up a thin black box, tied with a shimmery silver ribbon.
"This is for you. I'd intended to give it to you before your first mission, but I just couldn't wait." She took it from him slowly.
"But, why? What's the occasion?" He shrugged and rested his elbows on his knees.
"Does there need to be an occasion?" She blushed slightly and untied the bow, smiling at the sight of what was inside.
It was a pair of elegant daggers. The handles and blades were curved, and intricately designed. They came with lovely decorated sheaths and the blades of the knives were etched with an delicate pattern.
"Loki they're gorgeous, I don't know if I'll ever be able to use them, they're so lovely. I don't know how to thank you," she trailed off as he waved his hand dismissively.
"You don't have to thank me. You need something to help defend yourself. I had Thor have them forged for you, they're made out of a lightweight metal, well balanced and very strong. I don't think you should have any trouble with them." She set the box down on the table and wrapped her arms around his neck, catching him off guard.
"Thank you, I will cherish them."
He wrapped his arms around her waist slowly, savouring how normal and comfortable her body felt against his. It felt like she was meant to fit him perfectly, like two pieces of a puzzle. But it ended sooner than he'd hoped, and they both rose to head to bed.
She left him at the door to her room with a small kiss on the cheek. She was flustered. Maybe it was just the suit, or maybe there was something more growing between the two of them. Until that night she'd thought it just her, but suddenly she wasn't so sure.

A picture of how I envisioned the knives :)
