After what seemed like weeks, Bane and Kaleb made it to where the five rivers met. The rivers came from different directions and converged into one lake. The Phlegethon River flowed into the lake, its fiery essence mixing with the powers of the other rivers.

On the other side of the lake stood a tall spire that watched over the river-fueled lake. "That must be where the Elder Cyclopes live," Kaleb said, pointing out the spire to Bane.

Bane nodded and was just about to start walking towards the tower when a huge shadow loomed over them. A Cyclops, bigger than the one that had captured Bane, stood with his arms crossed. His single eye, the colour of swamp water, furrowed as he stared down at the two boys.

The Cyclops let loose a monstrous roar that blew Bane's hair back, spit flying everywhere. Thinking that this was another enemy monster, Bane drew his sword. Kaleb did the same thing with his scythe.

The Cyclops growled before clapping his hands together, causing a shockwave that threw the boys off their feet. But the shockwave carried the scent of the ocean, filling the air with salt.

Didn't one of the Elder Cyclops make Poseidon's Trident? Bane thought as the Cyclops brought out his own trident. It was just as tall as he was, maybe even taller given the way the Cyclops held it at an angle. It was crusted with rust but looked as if it was polished on a daily basis, sometimes with the blood of monsters.

"WAIT!" Bane cried, causing both the Cyclops and Kaleb to give him a confused look. "Are you Brontes?" Bane asked, turning towards the one-eyed giant.

"Do I know you?" the Cyclops asked, his voice rumbling like a sea storm.

"My name is Bane La Mortis, son of Hades. This is my friend Kaleb". Bane thought it best not to mention that Kaleb was the son of Kronos, the same Titan who promised to free the Elder Cyclops from their prison but didn't. "We have come to investigate why the monsters have escaped their prisons".

"You have come too late," Brontes sighed, his salty breath coming out in clouds, "The monsters have banded together and overwhelmed me and my brothers. We have taken to trying to wrangle them in small groups but we cannot do it alone".

"What about the Hundred-Handed Ones?" Kaleb asked, putting his scythe back in its sheath.

"They are trying to fight monsters like the Hydra and Ladon since they are the biggest".

Suddenly, a shadow even larger than the one belonging to Brontes fell over the group. Brontes scooped up the Demigods and threw them out of harm's reach before rolling to safety himself. The projectile crashed into the ground, dust billowing everywhere.

When the burning dust cleared away, a huge body with multiple limbs and heads lay there with a Hydra on top of him.

"COTTUS!" Brontes called, running to help, "I'M COMING BROTHER!".
