For Christmas, a club I'm a part of was selling cookies. The money would go to a charity. It was similar to the Christmas cards the seniors sell. So I used it as an excuse to talk to Avi and he promised to buy a cookie.
I asked him once in the halls and he said he had to get the money. Then I asked him on the way back from gym.
"Yo, you need to buy the cookies!"
He turned around and said, "Don't worry. I have the money, I just have to give it to you."
"Good."
"How will I get the cookie?"
"During sixth period, members of the club hand them out."
"Oh ok."
His friend came up to us and asked, "DO you want to buy a Christmas card?"
"Maybe. If you buy a Christmas cookie."
"Bet."
Avi said, "You do realize the money will end up canceling out because it's the same price?"
"Shut up, you're ruining my business."
He laughed and told his friend, "She's buying me a cookie."
I turned to him and made this face.
"don't give me that face. Who else do you have to give it to?"
"I have friends ya know."
"Like who, Omar?"
Omar was this senior I was friends with. But he was into Nandini so I was trying to hook them up. I wanted to tell Avi he was being jealous but by then he'd walked into class.
I called out as I walked away, "I'll find you bro."
Vanessa thought the reason why Avi was prolonging giving me the money was because we were finally having conversations because of these things. And he wanted excuses to talk to me. I kind of believed her.
When I asked him the next day for the money he gave me the money and asked how he'd get the cookie.
I said, "What's your sixth?" I didn't want to say I already knew. That would be creepy. It's not my fault I happened to be in the halls whenever he was walking out of class so we could bump into each other. (I'm not a stalker.)
"The computer room."
"ok."
He only gave me one dollar. For one cookie. For him. I asked for two dollars. One cookie for him and one for me. Now it would look weird if I sent him a cookie. But I'd already filled out the log. Now what was I supposed to do?
We went our separate ways and then I realized that I didn't ask what shape he wanted the cookie to be. I waited outside after sixth for him and asked him. He looked confused.
I pulled out the log and pointed to the top where the shape options were. "Which shape do you want for your cookie: Snowflake, Christmas tree or candy cane?"
"Which one do you want?"
I looked at him and smiled happily. "Ummm, snowflake!"
"Well, there you go."
he walked to class and left me to smile alone. Ok that seems like nothing, but you had to be there. There was this look in his eyes. And did it not sound like he was buying me a cookie?
So my brilliant bestie Vanessa came up with a plan.
I was going to send Avi a cookie and send the one he bought to me. And if he asked about it, I'd say they must've mixed it up or something or that I had gotten confused about who his cookie was for.
It seemed like he'd hinted at it anyways so that's my justification. I see you judging me. Well, don't.
I was so happy that day. DOn't ask me why I made a big deal out of nothing but even Nate was excited.
I told him what happened during math and he "eeped" with me. There's no other way to describe our excitement. He's like that really hot best friend who isn't gay but you see as your little brother.
He told me, "I saw you guys talking earlier when he gave you the money. He is the perfect height for you."
"I know right!"
"And you guys look so cute together."
"I know."
"See I told you. But you didn't get the number!"
"I know but it's ok. I will eventually."
"I have faith in you."
"You have more faith in me than I do in myself."
