Ada was settling down in a small but cozy motel in the heart of the Big Apple. The Caucasian women was looking through her computer, assessing the information that Vergil has given her.
Whenever she tried reading Leon's report though, Ada couldn't continue anymore and slumped against her chair, closing the laptop until the screen was 45 degrees above the keyboard.
"Having trouble?" A female voice spoke up, and Ada didn't even have to turn to see who it was.
"Ashley...." Ada trailed off as she turned to look at her almost twin. The only way to differentiate the two women was that Ashley had dyed several strands of her hair in silver, making her look like a rock star with her choice of clothing.
"Long time no see, partner." Ashley said as she leaned against the side of the window, her legs crossed on top of the other as she folded her arms on her chest.
"Long time indeed. Aren't you supposed to be in China monitoring the facility that Carla had built there?"
Ashley shrugged, a dagger dancing among her fingertips. "I got bored. Besides, the higher ups don't have authority over me anymore. I'm working freelance now."
Ashley said before throwing her dagger towards Ada, who caught it with precision before throwing it back.
"Freelance? You gained freedom from the Family?" Ada raised her voice slightly at that. In all her years, no one has ever gained freedom once they worked with the Family. Especially if it concerns highly skilled assassins and spies like Ashley and herself, who had been trained since young to become the professionals they are today.
"Not really freedom freedom though. Don't forget you and I are both never disconnected from the Family. Not matter how we think we are from leaving their control."
Ada frowned at Ashley's words, who only looked down and examine her fingernails.
"If you're free, than I supposed you're not here to gloat at me than." Ada said as she raised an eyebrow.
Ashley grinned mischievously, gesturing at Ada's laptop on the table. "I actually wanted to surprise you with my visit. But a few days ago I found you dancing with a quite handsome men on the balcony of one of New York's most luxurious hotel."
Ashley wriggled her eyebrows that made Ada roll her eyes. Unlike herself, Ashley was more of a mischievous and the sort to have fun during her missions, whereas Ada was professional and does thing the way she deems will benefit her mission.
"Name's Vergil. He claims to be a part of the Family. But I don't remember seeing him before." Ada said as she ducked up a file on Vergil from her own archives.
"He joined only two or three years ago. He's professional and takes no prisoner in what he does. In a short span of four months, he rose from being just a recruit to one of the eight leaders that governs the entire organization's operation."
Ada hummed as she processed this new information. If what Vergil has said is true, than this was her final mission before she could wipe her hands clean off of the Family.
"But he was never present during board meetings. I attended one when I was still working with Simmons, and I remember the faces of the eight people in the room. None of them was him."
Ashley clicked her tongue and tucked her chin on her bend knees before speaking.
"He's a very private person. He never really interacts with the others unless it was the leaders or his own men. The board meeting that you and I attended was different compared to the real board meetings they had with no one but only the eight leaders."
Ada nodded in understanding. Ashley grinned as she stood on the carpet floor and walked towards Ada's laptop, her eyes skimming through the informations with precision.
"Stalker duty, eh?" Ashley said as she scrolled the pages, eventually stopping on the file that contained Dante's information.
"Strange. I feel like I seen this man before." Ashley scratched her chin as she peered at Dante's profile, than shrugged as she got nothing.
"Hey, isn't that the agent that's been head over heels for you in China?" Ashley teased and Ada shoved her in the stomach gently, causing her ex-partner to snicker.
"Whatever you say. Unless you want to help me, you can leave through the window." Ada said with a stern tone but Ashley knew Ada wasn't holding any heat behind the words.
"... Sure. I'm doing nothing at the moment anyway. Besides, if doing this mission gains your freedom," Ashley paused. "I'll do everything to succeed this mission."
Ada was touched for a moment, but than her hard gaze settled on the gun and grappling hook on the table just beside the laptop.
Grabbing the aforementioned items, Ada left the room through the window with Ashley in tow, and both had the same hard and determination gaze with their eyes before they jumped and sailed through New York city.
