Chapter Twenty Two

The cloud of dust settled and light began to pass through the open wall. The light was dim but the floating particles were evident. One officer who I didn't know the name of was killed instantly from the blast. The rubble crushed them, and the only trace left behind was an arm that stuck out from under the mess. The fingers curled and uncurled at random until Logan's foot pressed down, snapping the hand and leaving it cold and limp.

I visibly cringed at the sound. A boot pressing bone onto a marble floor wasn't something to marvel at. I was picking myself off the floor, shoving my hands into my black hood pockets and watching the group quickly regain their composer.

"Ah, Virgil, Roman, what a pleasant surprise. Although the surprise is at fault due to your commonly unraveled approach to the mission." My former companion lifted his foot off the hand and hopped off the rubble he seemed to tower over. His glasses were covered in dust so he pulled them off his face and cleaned them with his black dress shirt. The most noticeable thing at this moment where his eyes that observed the room through a bright yellow pupil.

From behind him came another person who dropped an empty rocket launcher to the ground. The cylinder-shaped weapon fell down the hill before reaching a halt at Logan's feet. "Now THAT'S a fun toy," The...it...Remy said. "Only had one shot though." It continued, manic laughter crossing over the room.

The real Remy took no note of this, "Bitch, how dare you steal my look!" Remy shouted over the noise. The other person didn't seem to mind, calming themselves down and, in a foggy shift, turned into the man everyone expected, Deceit.

Roman growled, slowly standing away from Joan in a good attempt to be independent. The attempt succeeded and the prince stood on his own, using only the wall as a support. "Oh, of course, it's you," he huffed. My friend shifted against the wall so he was leaning on it back first. "I should have known something was up when you didn't refer to me as 'bitch' or 'majesty'." The hero folded his hands together, causing the ground to seemingly shake. At first, nothing happened, but upon Roman finishing his statement with a, "Say my name peasants," and water erupted from the ground. Deceit teleported right before the water erupted, but Logan was unfortunate. The intellectual Hit the second floor and fell back to the ground with a loud thud.

That's how the chaos began.

The roof above us cracked and I caught it just in time to roll away. The second floor crashed against the first at rocket speed. The concrete braking against the marble-like ice, causing pieces to scatter every direction. One of the smaller pieces launched at me, clinging to my leg and knocking me to the ground with ease.

The floor above us continued to crack suspiciously. I watched this from the floor, finding myself immobile. I couldn't move. I heard the "Bang" of a gun, followed by a "Shit." Then the room was quiet.

-----

Logan climbed to his feet as Thomas, Remy, Joan, Virgil, and Roman all crashed to the floor. The intellectual glanced up at the roof; taking note of its dire condition. Deceit, who had reappeared the moment everyone crashed, smiled at this. The smile was weak yet unsettling. A sort of knowledge was hidden behind it. Information that was twisted but true.

Then the squeak of a door filled the silence and Patton entered the room.

His steps were full of childish excitement but his hand said otherwise. His hand was squeezed into a tight fist; white and grey glowing from the palm of his hand. This meant one obvious thing; Patton was the cause of their discomfort, pressing them down with gravity like a stamp to a piece of paper.

"Wow, kiddos! Fancy seeing you here!" More of the second floor began to fall, but luckily no one was in its path. Virgil took this as his sign to book it and sunk into the 2D dimension with ease.
