I think I watched the two stare at each other for at least a minute before anything else happened. The scene was rare, like ancient porcelain that could break by sneezing on it. Virgil and Remy were locked in place until Virgil dropped his hand and stepped away to give Remy space.

The officer sighed, glancing over to me in a way that finally made me understand. It's a blessing and a curse, his eyes I mean. The usual grey in them never held so much life. With a furrow of his brows, the officer fell down onto one knee, picked up his shades, and, after wiping his face with the back his hand, put his shade back on.

"Are you happy now Virgil?" The officer rose to there feet. "I have feelings, I'm not always the bad guy. but you needed to know, right? You couldn't let me keep it to myself."

"Remy, I'm sorry."

"Sorry doesn't bring anyone back. I know, I tried. Now can we please get back to the issue at hand...I want to kill this dick as much as you do."

Virgil smiled at the comment, and I knew that whatever feud had been started between them was finished. This led me to smile as well, and for a minute everything was peaceful again.

"Thomas," Valorie began, a red spiraling whirling around the outskirts of the watch. "While it's not advised that I ruin this surprisingly brief moment of happiness, I'd advise that you leave the building."

Me and Remy both turned to Thomas simultaneously and in unison, we all seemed to breath 'what?' in some form or fashion. Remy's question was monotone, quiet, but firm. While Thomas and I practically burst out in question.

"Direct your attention to cameras 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14."

We did as she asked, me shoving my hands into my pockets, Remy crossing his arms and moving closer so he can see better, and Thomas clasping his hands behind his back. The halls were filled with chaos. This was usually normal...on the third floor, but no, this was happening on floors one, two, three, and four.

Red eyes, not yellow, there was a distinction. While Logan had soft yellow eyes, the crowd raging downstairs had bright red eyes. They didn't take up the entirety of their eye as the yellow did. It was a piercing red that filled the usual black in the center of their eye. This image was more savage, less controlling.

"Ding," I could hear it through the eerie silence down the hall. The elevator doors sliding open and the steps running with fierce, uneven steps down the hall. "Guys," I warned, "Their coming."

"We can't get out through the door,  open the hatch," Thomas ordered, turning away from both of us and walking to the emergency exit. Remy, who was closet to the couch, dropped down to the side and pressed the button hidden under the couch. The wall began to open.

"Bang!" Something slammed into the door. The door I locked a moment before Remy opened the hatch. Incoherent shouts and bangs echoed beyond the wall, making me jump. Remy was the one who spun me around and pulled me away from the door and toward Thomas.

"Virgil, you need to jump us down. We can't survive the jump without you."

My eyes end wide at the statement. "I can't I can only take one person at a time. One of you needs to stay behind."

"Thud." The noise didn't come from beyond the door but rather Remy, who flipped the coffee table onto its side and retrieved a gun underneath. He cocked the gun and shook the pellets inside. "I can handle this," Remy shouted over the racket. "You guys go ahead."

Thomas rolled his eyes, "No I'm holding the fort, you two need to get out of here. I've called your bike Virge, it'll be ready when you hit the road."

"Nope, can't do that Thomas."

"Remy!" The mentor narrowed his eyes, "That's an order!"

The passageway was open now, and as he turned to face us I could see the natural rays of the sun, rise over him like the curtain on a stage. He was smiling, and despite the pressing situation and order, he seemed to be enjoying himself. "Thomas," Remy began strolling our way, fidgeting with the gun as he approached.

"Remy, nows not the time to play games, that door-"

"Sshh!" Remy interrupted, slapping a hand over Thomas's mouth. "Say hi to them for me." And then he pushed Thomas off the building, only nodding for me to follow him. He knew I had no choice, he knew I had to save him, and he probably knew just how much respect I had for him right now.

"Good luck Remy." The door finally caved in and crashed onto the ground.

"Good luck kid and don't worry," He lifted his sunglasses to look me in the eye, "I'll go easy on them." I flashed a smile before saluting him and falling backward. Backward, right off the building. The sun blinded me for a moment, but once I began falling down the orange sky became a path for my free fall.

Down, down, down, until I could hear Thomas shouting every which way. The man was spiraling in every direction. Down, down, down, down down. I grabbed my mentor and pulled him to my chest only a second before impact.

Usually, I land on my feet when I do this but this time was an exception. Imagine belly flopping into the pool...that's what it felt like. The two of us crashed into the 2D world, me taking the majority of the impact as I thudded against the floor.

"Ah shit," I groaned, rolling over but refusing to let Thomas go just yet. I blew my bangs out of my face so I could see Thomas, who was clinging to me like his lifeline. To be fair, I was. I winced again, rolling my shoulder and sitting up. Because of my sideways position Thomas stayed huddled on the ground and I held him down by the wrist; knowing very well that he'd float back up into reality if I get him go.

"Yo Thomas."

"Am I dead?" The mentor opened his eyes and sat up.

"No, you're just in the 2D dimension, I got to you in time."

Thomas huffed, "I'm going to kill Remy when this is over."

I rolled my eyes at the statement, "Sure Thomas, sure." I let him go and he quickly bounced up and out of the void. I got to my feet, clapped my hands together, and followed.
