Chapter Thirty One

Imagine this: the four people you trusted with your life are currently trying to take it. Everything you did together is gone. 'Just gone, and there's nothing you can do about it. You failed, and it's time to hide under the covers of your bed until the sun doesn't shine. No. No, you can't turn back the fucking clock. Choices were made and now you die. That's how the story ends. You don't get a HAPPY ending. You can't get out alive...Can you?"

Shaking, that was one word to describe my blurry frame. My muscles ached, my vision danced, and the sword I gripped so tightly tapped against the concrete in a pattern. The tapping was in tune with a rapid heartbeat, keeping me under control.

I've had to kill people before, but only when I didn't have another chance. If you wanted the truth I didn't understand what the hell was happening to me. I wouldn't call myself the merciful type, but when you're standing around the faces that once protected you,  it's a completely different story. Patton, Roman, heck even Logan doesn't deserve this shit.

With that said I stepped forward, my feet tapping and re-tapping as I shivered. Thomas groaned, pushing himself away from the panel. "that country must've been shit Deceit, because we're not leaving until your psychotic ass is in shambles."

"Well then you can die here," He nodded back to Logan, who seemed to signal something between the other two as a result. "but we'll be taking him with us."

Something approached behind me, and by instinct, I tossed an elbow behind me and flipped whichever poor soul decided to try taking me first. It was Patton and his grey cape flopped over him as he came crashing to the ground. I stepped over him and welcomed the wave of air pushing us towards the snake behind us. The wind rushed past my ear like a flag on the beach. Nevertheless, I stayed focused on not losing balance.

Not it was Thomas's turn. The mentor, who was holding on tightly to the panel controls, took the iron computer case, spun it around him, and flung it past me. It missed me by a hair and slammed into Roman's face. The entire room seemed to internally cringe at the sight, but at this point, I didn't care that Roman's perfect face just got hit with enough force to knock him out. It didn't knock him out, that's all we cared about.

A fist came one direction and a blue bolt came another. I avoided the fist with ease and tugged the attacker (Patton) towards me. The hero blocked me from the bolt and most likely burnt the fatherly figure as a result. He didn't show any signs of pain, which gave me plenty of mixed feelings. I kicked Patton forward and he crashed into Logan. The first one to get a hit on me was Roman, who came at me from the side. I went tumbling into the hard cold wall but didn't stay long. A leg was approaching quickly, forcing me to roll away and semi recover.

Throughout this, you could hear shouting. Thomas cussing, Logan shouting orders, and Deceit being an obnoxious asshole. My fight or flight instincts were kicking in, and after five minutes of keeping people at bay, my adrenaline was starting to wear out. Luckily it got revamped...

After Thomas went crashing through the wall behind me.

"THOMAS!!" I shouted over the calamity of tumbling concrete, manic laughter, and the eager steps of people getting back to their feet. I couldn't care less about any of it. My body began moving on instinct, grabbing the famous sword that rested on the ground and vaulting over the wall left standing.  Compared to the previous room that threw up dust anywhere it could, This room seemed untouched. We ran through the room before, leaving us no time to inspect it. The decor on this floor was actually pretty nice despite it all. One could almost breathe in here.

I couldn't as my breath hitched like the final lock on the door of a prison. "THOMAS!" I shouted again in a higher note. I sprinted to the other side of the room and fell to my knees.

-----

Virgil was getting ganged by three people, all of which were people I cared about. My only option was to go after Deceit since that was the only option he gave me. The snake was ruthless. One moment he was in front of me, the next moment he was behind me. I could barely keep up with the actions. In a way, it felt like a madhouse. I never knew whether I was hitting him or not. Maybe he wasn't around at all and he was just messing with me. Either way, the circling combat was getting on my nerves.

I don't know when he hit me, maybe it wasn't him who hit me in the first place. All I knew was that something came in contact with me and it came in fast. The world went black, then white, then red, before the shouting of my name brought me back into reality.

The world still seemed red and I couldn't tell whether I was hallucinating or wearing glasses. To be fair, I couldn't feel anything until a purple blur jumped over something and fell into focus before me. That's when the pain began settling in. "Virgil?" I questioned but the hero didn't get to answer. Instead, he spun onto his feet and lifted the sword in hopes it'd protect us.

I thought I heard something bang. Maybe it was a gun, maybe it was a door. But within all of the confusion, a yellow figure fell to the ground and three others followed. While one went cold the others stirred in a shaking, tired, or painful state. The first one to get up was Patton, who crawled to my side until I could see him clearly. He grabbed my hand and held it up to his as the stream of tears fell off his face and splash against the floor.

A white and red blur started approaching next. Roman was the closest and it didn't take long for him to make his way to my side. Virgil seemed to break at this point and the Prince didn't hesitate to pull the emo into a hug and comfort him.  However, while doing this he never stopped looking at me from over Virgil's shoulder. He seemed to be too scared to let me out of his sight.

Logan was next. VERY slowly the leader climbed to his feet, stumbled over to me, and fell against a wall behind me. He looked at me for a few seconds, so conflicted from the past six months of corruption that even he couldn't seem to think straight. It took him a full minute to really comprehend what was happening, but when he did understand, he too cried. Except his breakdown was silent as if he refused to let anyone comfort him.

The last was Remy. He must've been the one that busted through the door. At least, that was my theory. Despite being unable to hear anyone over the white noise he seemed to say something. The only thing I could read was 'move'. This must've been right because Logan and Patton crawled away from me and gave him space. He crouched to my level. He was saying something but, of course, I didn't hear any of it. I wish I could though.  As if reading my thoughts the officer smiled, moving forward ever so slightly in order to remove his sunglasses. He mouthed something slowly and I didn't know whether he said 'I love you.' or 'We love you.' Either way, the officer, my boyfriend, kissed me gently and briefly on the forehead.

That's the last thing I saw.
