"Beep! Beep! Beep!-"
Virgil groaned, rolling over ever so slightly to snooze his alarm clock. His hand flopped on the table with a lazy thump. He tried again, hitting the button and turning back over. His bangs fell back over his hair as he awaited the sweet embrace of sleep. That didn't come. "Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep-" Realisation struck the tired boy and he was up in an instant, cursing silently to himself as he rushed to his feet and bolted for the door. He realized now that it wasn't his alarm clock.
He slipped on his shoes, pulled on his black fingerless gloves, and wrapping a seemingly normal watch around his wrist before leaving the room. He didn't worry about the rest of his attire. Last night was a long one and the emo didn't bother to switch out his purple hoodie and black jeans before falling asleep. It was for the best. As he walked down the hall, however, he did touch up his eyeshadow. It became so routine that the boy didn't even bother with a mirror. It was second nature.
Virgil entered the living room, spotting Roman instantly as the prince like figure switched on the TV and tossed the remote back on the couch. The abrupt beeping stopped and the screen flipped to a private channel.
"Virgil, Roman a hate to disrupt your beauty sleep-" Virgil rubbed his eyes while Roman shrugged dismissively. The man was always a morning person. "But a chain robbery is breaking through Washington." Roman rose a brow. "How many?" "Six, The police are tackling two as we speak but four have yet to be dealt with. As this rate, the police won't make it in time."
"Got it!" I interrupted. Switching the connection from the TV to my watch. By the time those words left my mouth Roman had already left through the window. I followed, climbing up the side of the building while Roman climbed using the ladder. The audio connection established quickly in my earpiece as I finally remembered to put it on. This allowed Thomas to continue his address. "Logan and Patton are brawling the two downtown. I need you guys to cover the north. Think you can handle it?"
I grabbed the edge and swung myself onto the roof, Roman reaching the top a few seconds before me. "Yeah," Roman answered, adjusting his sword slightly. He shot me a smile before walking off the building. "Show off!" I shouted rolling my eyes and sprinting the other direction. I leaped off the edge. wind rushing past me as I fell the long distance towards the street below. This always made me anxious, but as long as I wore my jacket the anxiety couldn't overwhelm me. I hit the concrete and everything went dark.
No, I didn't just jump off a roof and kill myself for your information.
I fell through the ground becoming a two-dimensional figure on the concrete. This is when everything went black. My hands, eyes, jacket, everything was a shadow of what it once was. I was a shadow.
-----
I winked to my companion before stepping off the building. I heard Virgil shout something but I couldn't make it out. Windows shot past me, showing off a variety of colors. This was something I quite enjoyed. Pink, orange, blue, then release. The air around me slowed to a breeze, allowing me to float gradually to the ground. This was one of many things I was capable of. I couldn't fly, though that would be cool. Instead, I could maneuver the air around me like a paintbrush to slow me down.
This was one of my abilities. I could bend liquids and gases to my will. Obviously, I couldn't conjure stuff from nothing so most commonly I used air since it was always readily available. You're probably wondering, "But what about the earth or solids and all that shit." well sorry to burst your bubble but I can't bend solid objects. the particles need to have an indefinite shape in order for me to move it. It's surprisingly interesting. More interesting than Logan's neverending reel on enemy information.
One foot after the other I stepped gracefully to the ground, the air releasing its grip on me as the sole of my shoes hit the asphalt. I had already covered the majority of the way. Just a short quarter mile run to go. I took off, not breaking a sweat as I cut through the dark alleys. I didn't expect a break in to start from the front door and even then the front door would be heavily guarded.
Guess I'll have to improvise and let me tell you. Idea making was my specialty.
I entered cautiously through the side door, listening closely for any sort of movement. Nothing here but I could hear shouting in the other room. Only single shots. Implying someone had a pistol at hand. "Think," I muttered to myself and I did...And I had something...
"Alright." The man shouted. the gun never faltering in his hand. The barrel pressed into the helpless child nearby. The mom was crying but there was nothing she could do, she felt usless, crying on the floor with other bystanders. "You!" He gestured to one of his acquaintances. "Help me with the door! let's go!" The mom shifted, her eye's only pleading to hold her child once more. The man glared back and started tugging the girl with him. He didn't have any intention of letting her go.
A door nearby creaked open and a familiar figure walked out. The man was whistling loudly, strolling into the room like someone wasn't pointing a gun around. All the bystanders froze, unlike the intruders. "Get on the fucking ground." Someone yelled, but the prince like figure was careless, smiling even.
"Oh nah, I'm good." He replied. "Plus you have no right to tell someone as gorgeous as me to sit down. I will strut as I please." He commented again. The three men were furious. "I said. GET. ON. THE. GROUND." The man holding the gun repeated, gritting his teeth as he redirected the barrel to the confident figure.
The prince gasped, holding a hand up to his chest dramatically. "I shall not! I will have you know that!-"
"Bang!" A bullet was fired, going through the princes chest...and hitting the wall behind him. I opened the door behind the appalling figure and made my move. "Hello there!" my illusion waved. The man still shocked spun around and met my gaze. I pulled his gun away easily and unloaded the ammunition before tossing it to the ground. "greetings!" I also greeted. I shook the stranger's hand before tossing him effortlessly against a wall.
I smiled at the two other men, turning on my heel and walking out the door. The officers took my place. Breaching the room and taking the defenseless men into custody. "What a breeze." I yawned. Letting go of the hilt of my sword. I didn't even get to use it. I tapped on the device by my ear fixing my hair like Thomas could see me this very moment. "Thomes my mission is accomplished." I listened to a flash of static. "Easy like always." "You know it!" I didn't need to see Thomas to know he rolled his eyes at my comment.
-----
"Patton!" A familiar voice shouted through my earpiece. "Mom?! I'm a little busy!" I responded. Since I could control and bend gravity I drove an approaching bullet into the ground and ducked low to the ground before punching a dude in the face. "Sorry kiddo!" I yelped as the poor fellow tumbled to the ground. I always felt the need to apologize when I knocked someone out cold.
"Oh? You working on another art project hun?" I couldn't help but wonder how in the world my phone connected to my earpiece. Thomas said he'd fix it but he said that a week ago. He's not the best a tracking time. "Actually mom, I'm at an art and crafts store." I lied, trying to add sense to the constant commotion around me. I was so focused on my mom that I forgot about the five dudes I was facing.
"One moment mom," I said as kindly as possible. I turned around and lifted someone into the air to keep them away from me. I wasn't the best a leveling gravity force so it wouldn't last long. I jumped high into the air, narrowly dodging another bullet before I fell with twice the force back to the ground. I landed on someone in the process. "Sorry mom! There was this adorable dog and I just HAD to pet it!" I giggled. The force finally released and the man fell onto his companion.
"Bang!" "Oh goodness! is everything alright, that sounded like a gun!" I muffled my pain into my blue sleeve. The last dude managed to strike me in the shoulder. I lightened the gravity around me, allowing me to sprint at high speeds and ram the last burger into a brick wall before they could reload their gun. The stranger slumped down the wall and I was tempted to do the same. "Ow sorry!" I acted for my mom. "I apologize, I'll be sure to pick it up right now!" My face scrunched up slightly as I glanced to my left shoulder. "Sorry, mom I gotta go! I-I accidentally knocked over a stack of coloring books! Talk to you later!" We shared our farewells until my mom hung up the phone. Considering I couldn't do it myself.
"Hey, kiddo?" I called, pressing a button on my earpiece. "I'm not your child but yeah?" "The furniture shop keeps calling me...I only wanted one night stand." Thomas huffed on the other end only making me smile more. "Did you really just call me to tell me a dad joke?" "No, I called you because I have a level four bullet injury."
"I love you Patton...but please get to the base so we could patch you up."
"On my way!"

I had reached my location only to find it deserted. Was I too late or was it a false threat entirely. I didn't know for sure. I Adjusted my fake pair of specks before turning on my communication device. "Thomas this area is secure. I spot no threat." I let the button go and waited for a response. None. Something was very wrong but I wouldn't jump to conclusions. I straightened my blue tie and continued checking the perimeter. Something was canceling out my signal but I didn't know what or why. Thought I wouldn't admit that to myself. I've always known everything. Nothing more, nothing less...
"Oh, Logan." I heard behind me. I whirled startled but saw no one In the empty, foggy street. I tried to think this out logically. "Low lighting and fear can heighten the risk of hallucinations." I reminded myself. I listened desperately, trying to tune into a stream of thoughts. When I tuned into someone's thoughts that was a strong indication of another presence, however, I heard nothing. No one was around but me.
"I should find the others." I reminded myself. I pried my thoughts away from the eerie quiet street and started home. This was nonsense.
