The fox and the hound had ended and Thomas was balling on the couch. It was late; Logan still tucked away in his room, Roman, Thomas, and Patton collectively sobbing, and Virgil waiting in the V hub kitchen for dinner. He insisted on preparing the meal himself but arguing with the chefs was useless.
"there ya go, Virge, anything else?" In front of him were a few meals; it made him hungry just looking at then. Then again, to the best of his knowledge, he hadn't eaten since yesterday. Thomas and Patton asked for pizza, Logan wasn't hungry, I asked for spaghetti, and Roman wanted ice cream. We are well aware mind you, that we need to change our diet.
"Um-a, do you-if it's not to much trouble, can you put a cherry on Roman's ice cream? He enjoys them." The chef nodded. "Of course!" She rushed back into the kitchen and returned moment's later. Holding a cherry by the stem, she topped off the ice cream on my tray. "Alright, a cherry for the prince as well, anything else?" "No, no, thank you." I nodded my respects and went to the elevator, it was a six-story building after all.
I tapped the button with my elbow and entered, the doors closing behind me. The metal box rose another floor Before opening its doors for a friend of mine. The man's name was Terrance, he was a guard for the tower. "Good afternoon sir." the guard smiled as he entered. "Terrance, dude, I've already told you, you're allowed to call me Virge. I won't bite...you." He clicked level six, the floor above mine and the elevator started to rise once more. "Eh, it's a habit."
"Not a good habit, bro."
"Sorry sir, wait-Dang it!"
"Keep working on it, dude."The elevator let out a soft ding and the doors opened for me. Unable to wave him goodbye like usual I shrugged stiffly and walked out.
I pushed the door open and closed it behind me. Patton was the first to respond. "Oh, thanks kiddo!" "Pat, I'm not your-" The figure flicked their wrist and I let him take the tray from my hands and levitated it around the couch, for everyone else. "Holy Connoly a cherry! They remembered this time?" Roman wrapped his hands around the bowl and set it on his lap, keeping his focus on me as I sunk beside him. I did, however, stay a safe distance away due to my nerves. "Nah, I reminded them. Same dip though." I shrugged twirling spaghetti around my fork and shoving the strands in my mouth. I was seriously hungry.
-----
I giggled at Virgil, who shoved a fork full of spaghetti in his mouth and let the tray sink softly onto a table. I picked up a piece of pizza and folded it in half. "Patton?" Thomas questioned. My smile widened at the mentor beside me. "Yup!" "Are you eating that pizza like a taco? That's flipping genius!" I bit into my taco pizza but spoke with my mouth open. "Did you know taco cat spelled backward is still taco cat?"
Roman set an empty bowl on a table. "I did, not sure about you dorks." Thomas smiled with Virgil, but Virgil still rolled his eyes at Ro's comment.
"Mhmm." Logan sounded from the door. "While food is an important asset to maintaining a healthy life, Remy and a bud call have informed me of a mission. Thomas, permission to check it out?" Roman got to his feet, followed by me and Virgil. Thomas, on the other hand, stayed seated. "Yes, of course, Roman, take it easy will you?" Roman bowed dramatically, "If you wish Thomas, we will return shortly." Thomas reached under the table and pressed a hidden button, allowing a wall beside the couch to split open.
Roman took Logan and leaped off the fifth story, hovering safely to the ground. Virgil followed; unable to slow down I watched him pass his companions and fade into the ground. The action made me nervous every time. "Patton, please be careful." Thomas reminded, staring into my shoulder like a death being shown on display. I adjusted my glasses, being the only one to actually need them. "Of course Thomas! I'll keep a low!"
With those final words, I turned back to the opening and leaped out the opening. I could hear it closing behind me.
-----
Roman dropped me on the concrete when we were low enough and I fell into a roll on impact. Luckily I didn't take my fake pair of specks with me, so there was no need to remove them. I used my watch as a tracking device; leading us to the Central city lab. This was concerning. Virgil rose from the ground beside Roman, who himself had the handle of his sword grasped tightly. Patton raced from around the corner to reach my side.
My head perked up to a sudden internal thought. 'Logan, your here.' I could hear someone's thoughts. "Was that one of you?" I questioned. The group shook their heads. "No," Roman started, "Did you hear something?"
'Yeah.' I responded. I told them telepathically. I didn't know where it was and didn't want it listening in. 'It didn't come from a long distance, their someone currently hiding in the ally. Everyone spread out.'
Everyone gave me a quick nod and spread out.
Roman went a short distance before informing the team and me of something unusual. I threw a piece of trash away on my way back to Roman. It never hurts to recycle. "Yes, Roman?" I asked as I rounded a dumpster. In front of me was an iron door. Roman was crouched beside it, examining a dusty substance between his fingers. "What's this?" He questioned me. I crouched down myself and inspected the mixture of substances. "Mainly gunpowder, the door was blown down from the inside."
"We didn't hear the explosion, Logan."
"That means whoever was inside broke out a few minutes before our arrival." I huffed in annoyance but didn't dwell long.
I pressed my earpiece and contacted Thomas. "Yeah Lo?" "While we search I need you to run the incident over with the bystanders." "On it!"
I let go of my earpiece and turned back to Roman. "Thomas will take care of inside credibility and info. But we need to continue searching." Roman nodded. "I just hope everyone ended up ok."
At this point, I would've responded. At this point, I would have nodded in agreement and adjust my watch for no valid reason. But then we heard Virgil call. "Um, guys?"
