This year, yourself and your boyfriend Chandler are hosting Christmas dinner for the whole group. Not only is the whole group coming over to your apartment for Christmas dinner, but also your extremely high maintenance and judgemental parents. You were under a lot of pressure to make everything absolutely perfect since you didn't want to spend the whole of Christmas listening to your parents telling you everything you did wrong and should improve on. You and Chandler were currently setting up the dining table, trying to make it look elegant and beautiful for tomorrow. You had gone for a white and silver theme since that is usually what colour scheme your mother goes for each year. "Chandler make sure the place mats are straight, don't make them look wonky," you instructed as you placed the neatly rolled up napkins next to the placemats that you had put down. Chandler re-positioned the placemats but they still looked wrong to you. "Chandler they still don't look right. It's not that difficult," you huffed. "Babe chill, they're just placemats, they aren't that important," Chandler said, placing a comforting hand on your shoulder. "I'm going to pretend you didn't just say that," you responded, shrugging his hand off of your shoulder," why don't you just go and get the centre piece for me, it's in the box on our bed." Whilst Chandler headed off to go and get the centre piece, you straightened up the placemats and put napkins next to them. Just as you put down the last napkin, you heard a loud crash behind you. You spun round and saw a guilty looking Chandler with the centre piece at his feet, completely smashed and destroyed. "Oh my god Chandler, what did you do!" You exclaimed as you ran over to collect the pieces of the now unusable centre piece. "Y/N I'm sorry, it just slipped out of my hands," he apologised as he bent down to help you collect all the broken pieces. You swatted his hand away, a frown settled firmly on your face. "You can't do anything right Chandler, first you mess up the placemats and now you break my centre piece, don't you get how important it is that everything is perfect for tomorrow," you snapped. "There's no need to be so mean, it was an accident," Chandler replied. "It's like you just don't understand how important it is for me to impress my parents, all they do is put me down and you don't even care about that," you hissed. "Can you just chill out Y/N. There's no need to talk to me like that. Of course I care about the fact that your parents are hard on you but you're just going overboard," Chandler snapped. You collected the last of the broken pieces and chucked them in the bin, glaring at Chandler in the process. He was massively getting on your nerves because he didn't seem to understand how much pressure you were under. "Don't tell me to chill out Chandler. You know that if something is even slightly out of place my parents will pick up on it. So stop ruining everything and try to at least help," you said angrily. "This is supposed to be everyone's Christmas Y/N, not just yours. You're going to ruin this for everyone if you keep being such a control freak," Chandler yelled, his facing turning red from the slowly rising anger. "I'm running around trying to make this perfect for everyone so don't you dare stand there saying I'm going to ruin it for everyone," you shouted, seething with fury. You both stood there with bright red faces, breathing heavily, and glaring intensely at the other. "All you're bothered about is your parents. You don't care if me or the group have a good Christmas, you only care about showing off to your parents," Chandler said. "Of course I care about everyone else. How could you even say that I don't," you replied, feeling quite hurt by his words. "It doesn't seem like you do. I mean you just yelled at me over a centre piece which cost you five dollars and is easily replaceable. You're driving me absolutely insane," Chandler snapped. "You're driving me insane! Everything I've asked you to do you've messed up. It's like you're purposely trying to give my parents a reason to insult me," you grumbled. "You know what, I'm not going to spend the rest of Christmas Eve listening to you complaining at me," Chandler said as he grabbed his coat. "Where are you going?" You asked. "Out," Chandler mumbled. He walked out of the door and made a point of slamming the door behind him. You slumped down on the sofa, upset with yourself and with Chandler. You'd ruined Christmas Eve for yourself by being so concerned with what your parents would think about your decorating. You finished up the last of the decorating and retired to your bedroom early so that you could get up early to prepare the masses of food that you would have to make. You woke up around 6am on Christmas morning. Chandler hadn't returned home so all the presents were left unopened under the tree. You were gutted that you couldn't spend Christmas morning with your boyfriend but you still hadn't forgiven him for what he'd said to you the day before and there's no doubt that he hadn't forgiven you for being so rude to him. You got dressed into your Christmas Day outfit and got on with the food preparations. Everyone was coming over at around 12 to do gifts and then your parents were coming around half 1. You spent the whole morning doing left minute decorating and starting to cook the food. Your mum liked the turkey cooked in a specific way so you were trying to make the turkey perfect so that she wouldn't complain about it and refuse to eat it. It was nearing on 12 when you'd finished everything you needed to do so you poured yourself a glass of wine and sat down on the sofa, staring at the unopened presents that may under your tree that reminded you of the fact that Chandler didn't want to be with you on Christmas. After a little while of sulking, the group trundled into the apartment with Chandler in tow. Chandler walked in and didn't even acknowledge you which really upset you. You exchanged presents with the group but Chandler made no effort to give you the presents he had bought you so you didn't bother to give him his. You tried to enjoy yourself and tried to join in the with groups jokes and conversations but you didn't feel like laughing or talking. The amount of pressure you had on you to make today perfect and the fact that you and Chandler weren't even speaking to each other had ruined the day for you. Your day got even worse when your parents turned up and instantly starting to criticise you. "Some is the baubles on your tree aren't nicely spaced." "You're table looks nice. It's sweet that you let a child come and decorate it." "It's a shame you don't have a centre piece. It makes the table look a little bare darling." You excused yourself from your parents, feeling close to tears because of how much they were criticising you. You busied yourself with the food, wanting to distract yourself so that you wouldn't cry. Similar to you, Chandler was feeling a bit down since he felt like his Christmas was ruined but he couldn't help but feel bad for you. He could tell that you were under a lot of pressure but he was still upset by what you had said yesterday so he chose to distance himself from you a little. "Chandler man she's really struggling, she needs the support of her boyfriend right now so get over whatever is stopping you from talking to her and go over there," Joey instructed. "I'm just upset with her Joey, the stuff she said wasn't nice and it actually hurt," Chandler replied. "She's under a lot of stress and she needs you right now, all her parents have done since they got here is insult her so just get your ass over there and support her," Joey said. Chandler nodded and headed towards his extremely stressed and clearly upset girlfriend. As you placed the Turkey on top of the oven, you felt two arms slip around your waist. "I'm sorry for yesterday," the all too familiar voice apologised," I know that you wanted to impress your parents and I'm sorry that I wasn't more understanding of that." Chandler pressed delicate kisses down the side of your neck and across your shoulder blade. You leant back into his chest as he continued to pepper you with kisses. "Please forgive me for being an asshole," he whispered in your ear before placing a soft kiss behind it. You spun round in his arms and wrapped yours loosely around his neck. "I can't ever stay mad at you," you giggled before pressing your lips to his. Chandler tried to deepen the kiss but you pulled back and gestured to the room full of people, silently telling him that it wasn't the time or place to be going that far. "I love you Y/N," he grinned as he tucked a loose strand of hair behind your ear. "I love you too Chandler, and I'm sorry for being a complete control freak yesterday," you apologised. "It's fine babe, you're parents are very difficult people and I get that you want to impress them so it's understandable that you were and still are stressed," he replied pressing a kiss to the top of your head," I'll help you finish dinner and we'll face your parents together." Yourself and Chandler, along with a little help from Monica, managed to plate up 9 Christmas dinners with ease and it looked perfect to you. You parents both looked at their food in a skeptical manner which angered you. Your mother took a bite and then spat the turkey into a napkin. "Is something wrong with the turkey mum?" You asked. "It doesn't taste right darling, I can't eat that," she replied. "I think it tastes lovely," Rachel said. "Me too, it's delicious," Joey added. "I don't see anything wrong with it," Monica responded. That shut your parents up and they sat in silence eating the rest of their dinner. Once you had cleared all the plates, you dished out the homemade Christmas pudding which had taken you a fair bit of time to make. "How does it taste mum? Dad?" You questioned. "It's a good effort sweetheart, I'm sure you'll do better next time," your dad answered. "Instead of coming here and insulting your daughter, why don't you just eat the food and say thank you for the effort she's put into making Christmas perfect for you," Chandler snapped. "Chandler you don't have to..." you began. "No I do. Y/N has worked her ass off to make today perfect for the both of you and all you've done is criticise her. Why can't you just say thank you instead of telling her how to improve," Chandler carried on," your daughter is amazing and would do anything for you but all you do is make her feel like she can't do anything right." Your parents were completely taken back by Chandlers words and looked to you thinking that you'd tell him off for how he was speaking to them. You looked up at Chandler with a grateful smile on your face and pecked his lips softly. "Thank you darling," you grinned. He wrapped his arm round your shoulder and you leant into his side. "Well, if that's how we are going to be treated when me made the long drive here, I guess we'll leave," your mother said standing up from her chair. "Have a safe trip home," you said with a sarcastic smile on your face. Your parents collected their things and bid goodbye without even saying thank you. You were disgusted by their behaviour and were completely embarrassed since your friends had to witness it. However, you were extremely grateful for Chandler sticking up for you because you knew that you wouldn't have had the guts to say anything to them. "I'm sorry for my parents guys but I'm glad I had you all here with me," you apologised. "You don't need to apologise Y/N, parents are a nightmare," Monica chuckled. "Well Merry Christmas everyone, let's try to enjoy the rest of the day," Ross said raising his glass. "Merry Christmas," you all cheered, clinking your glasses. "Merry Christmas baby," Chandler grinned before pecking your lips. "Merry Christmas Chandler."
