Yourself and Joey had been on and off for years. You were first together for two years and then split after a nasty fight. After a year the two of you got back together for another year which once again ended after a repeat of the fight that caused you to break up the first time. You got back together once again but it was short lived and now the two have you haven't been together for a year. You both still clearly love each other and even though your friends try to get you back together, you both know that it's best for the two of you to be apart. Things weren't weird between the two of you. You still saw him as your one of your best friends and he saw you the same way. Speaking of best friends, you were currently on your way to meet the group to reveal some really exciting news. You hurried through the busy streets of New York as you made your way to Central Perk. When you got there, you saw everyone sat in the usual spot and they all greeted you with beaming smiles. "Hey Y/N, how was work?" Monica asked, making room for you on the sofa.
"It was really good," you grinned.
"What's with the big smile Y/N?" Phoebe asked.
"Well, I just got a promotion," you replied, a big smile resting on your face.
"Congratulations," Monica said, pulling you in for a hug.
"That's not all, the job is in London," you responded.
The group all looked at you with shocked expressions and the hurt look on Joey's face did not go unnoticed by yourself. You knew the fact that the promotion came with a move across the ocean would bother everyone but you hoped that they would support you in what is the biggest step in your career to date. "Wow Y/N, that's great, but are you really going to go to London?" Rachel asked.
"I mean I'm definitely considering it guys, it's a huge pay rise and I've always wanted to live in London, it's such a great city," you replied.
There was a moment of silence after your response that made you feel like your friends weren't going to be entirely supportive of your decision. You shuffled awkwardly in your seat gazing round at your friends. "Well congrats Y/N, I'm so pleased for you," Ross said, breaking the awkward silence.
Everyone but Joey chimed in with their congratulations and you could tell they were half-hearted praises. They all quickly noticed that Joey was sat there not saying a thing so they all looked at him, silently telling him to congratulate you. He sat up in his seat and plastered a fake smile across his face. "Congratulations Y/N, I'm happy for you," he lied.
Secretly you had hoped that Joey would tell you not to leave and tell you that he loved you and wanted to spend the rest of your life with you but you knew that would never happen.

••••••••••••••

On the night before you were due to fly to London, the group threw you a farewell party and you thought it would be the perfect opportunity to say goodbye to everyone individually. You spoke to Rachel first then Monica, then Chandler, then Phoebe and finally Ross. When you and Ross left the spare bedroom, you realised only one person was left to say goodbye to, someone who, unbeknownst to you, was eager to have a final goodbye with the love of his life. Just as you were about to ask Joey to come and speak with you, you decided you couldn't do it and told the group you were tired and were going to head to your apartment which was only on the floor below. The fact that you left before having a proper goodbye with Joey broke his heart as he thought he meant more to you than that. The group could tell he was upset and they felt sorry for their friend who was clearly heartbroken over the departure of the woman he loved. "Unbelievable, she says goodbye to everyone but me," Joey snapped.
"Well maybe she thought that with all of your history that you could be implicit," Monica said, attempting to comfort her friend.
"Well it needs to be plicit," Joey huffed.
Joey was getting himself massively worked up over the situation and no one knew what to do to make him feel better. "Alright let's think about this, I mean there's got to be an explanation. Did you do something to make her mad?" Ross asked.
"No I don't think so," Joey replied as he began pacing around the room.
"You know maybe she was just really spent from our talk, it was pretty intense," Phoebe said.
"Yeah mine too," Monica added.
"Mine was a humdinger," Chandler said.
Joey rolled his eyes at his friends who weren't making him feel any better and were frankly making him feel massively unimportant to you. "I mean don't I deserve anything, a few tears, a cursory hug," Joey rambled, clearly getting upset.
"Joey if you're this upset you should just go and talk to her," Rachel stated.
"And say what? You owe me a goodbye? He's got more pride than that," Monica responded, letting out a small laugh.
"The hell I do," Joey snapped before storming out of the apartment.
He stomped down the stairs to your apartment and flung open the door, taking you massively by surprise. "I don't get a goodbye?" He asked loudly," Everyone gets a goodbye but me. What have I got to do to get a goodbye? Be best friends with you? Go out with you? Oh wait a minute I did all of those things!"
"Joey I-"
"You know what, after all we've been through, I can't believe this is how you want to leave things between us," Joey said before leaving you apartment.
Your heart broke at his words, making you feel terrible. You flopped down on your sofa, unsure of what to do. You didn't want to leave on such a sour note with Joey. He meant the absolute world to you and the last thing you wanted to do was to leave and never speak to him again. After debating your next move for a while, you decided to head upstairs to his apartment to confront him and make him understand why you didn't say goodbye to him in the same way that you said goodbye to everyone else.  You shoved open the door and slammed it behind you, expressing your upset.
"You really think I didn't say goodbye to you because I don't care?" You asked.
"That's what it seemed like," Joey huffed, folding his arms across his chest.
"I cannot believe that after ten years you do not know one thing about me," you yelled, trying to hold back the tears.
"Then why didn't you say something?" He questioned.
"Because it is too damn hard Joey," you cried," I can't even begin to explain to you how much I am going to miss you. When I think about not seeing you everyday it makes me not want to go. So if you think I didn't say goodbye to you because you don't mean as much to me as everybody else, you're wrong, it's because you mean more to me. So there's your goodbye."
You successfully held back the tears as you turned on your heel and headed towards the front door.  "Y/N," Joey said.
"What!" You snapped.
Joey grabbed you by your waist and pressed his lips against yours. You pulled away from him and lightly pressed your fingers against your lips, shocked at what just happened. You wrapped your arms around his neck and softly pressed your lips to his again. His lips against yours was a feeling you greatly missed. Your lips moulded together perfectly and the feeling of his hands gripping your hips felt natural, like your bodies were connected and meant to be together. He lifted you up and you instinctively wrapped your legs around his waist. As he carried you to his bedroom, your lips never left his...

••••••••••••••••

The next morning when you awoke you couldn't help but smile at the sight of Joey lay next to you. You slipped out of his embrace and began to put on your clothes from the night before, praying that he wouldn't wake up. Just as you were putting on your shoes, he began to stir and sat up in the bed. "Hey," Joey murmured, sitting up in the bed.
"Go back to sleep, I have to go home," you said as you sat next to him on the bed, running a hand through his hair.
He took your hands in his and kissed your knuckles softly. "God, this was amazing," he grinned.
"It really was," you mumbled, a smile resting on your face.
You pressed a gentle kiss to his lips before bidding him goodbye and heading out of his apartment.

•••••••••

Later on that morning, Joey turned up to your apartment where he found Ross and Phoebe sat drinking coffee at your kitchen counter. "Hey Guys, is Y/N here?" Joey asked, closing the door behind him.
"She's just in her room," Phoebe said," How'd it go with you two last night? She seem pretty pissed at you?"
"Yeah we worked things out," Joey answered, struggling to hold back the smile that was growing on his face at the thought of last nights events.
"What's that smile? Did something happen with you two?" Phoebe asked.
"I'm not one to kiss and tell," Joey smirked," but I'm also not one to have sex and shut up. We totally did it."
Phoebe squealed excitedly and Ross patted his friend on the back, feeling really happy for him. "So what does that mean? Are you two getting back together?" Ross asked excitedly.
"Oh I don't know. I mean we didn't really get to talk," Joey said.
"Do you want to get back together?" Phoebe asked.
"I don't know. It was incredible. It just felt so right and when I was holding her, I never wanted to let her go," Joey answered," You know what, yeah, I want to be together."
Phoebe let out a cheer causing Joey to shush her. It wasn't until that very moment that Joey realised he wanted to be with you and that he didn't want you to leave. "So is she still going to London?" Ross asked, hoping his friend would tell him that you no longer had any intention of leaving so that the two could get back together with ease.
"I hadn't thought of that. I hope not," Joey answered, suddenly feeling worried that he wouldn't have another chance with you.
Before Ross and Phoebe could answer, you walked out of your bedroom, a big smile growing on your face at the sight of Joey which brought back the sweet memories from last night. You made your way over to Ross, Phoebe and Joey, confused as to why everyone was grinning at you. "Hey how'd you sleep?" Joey asked.
"Good, you?" you responded, struggling to keep the smile off of your face.
"I bet you did," Ross smirked, causing Joey to glare at him.
"Would you guys give us a minute?" Joey asked.
Phoebe and Ross nodded and headed out of the apartment, leaving you and Joey alone. Joey took the moment alone as an opportunity to bring you into a sweet and short kiss. You took Joey's hands in yours, rubbing your thumbs across his knuckles. "Last night was just wonderful, I woke up with the biggest smile on my face," you grinned.
"Me too, it was like one of those things that you thinks never going to happen, and then it does and its everything you want it to be," Joey rambled.
You pressed your lips to his, wrapping your arms around his neck as his hands fell to your hips. The kiss was once again short and sweet and when you pulled away, you pulled Joey into a hug and you held each other tightly. "It was just the perfect way to say goodbye," you whispered.
What you weren't aware of was that your words shattered Joey's heart into a million pieces and made him realise that you were still going to London. He now believed that the door to your relationship was now closed, for good.
