"Oh my God, Lucy!" Michael stared with wide eyes, one hand covering his mouth to muffle the sobs he tried to suppress.
The blue eyes of the young girl widened and she carefully slid off of the bed more than three times her size. For a moment, he didn't recognize her. Her hair was neatly curled and she was wearing what looked to be very fine material for clothing. Not only that, but she looked so frail and careful with her actions.
However, her careful actions didn't last long as she suddenly sprinted across the room. She flung herself into Michael, her thin arms holding onto him as tight as they could. "Daddy!"
Michael wasn't hesitant, his own arms wrapping around her body and holding her tightly to him. He ran his fingers through her hair, pressing his face into the soft curls. "Oh God, God, Lucy. I-I thought...oh my God!" He continued to cry and laugh happily, closing his eyes.
Heath watched in confusion for only a moment, it easily sinking in that this girl was his friend's missing daughter. Heath smiled warmly and knelt down. He always thought he towered over Michael, but this was a human child. She was just a little over half of Michael's height, making him feel even bigger and more out of place among the two.
He had a few questions but wasn't going to ruin their reunion with them. He doesn't think he's ever seen Michael so happy.
"I'm okay! The people here found me and took care of me after the mean boy hurt me a lot. But now, whenever I get hurt, it goes away really fast," Lucy smiled brightly at her father, her small blue eyes sparkling with happiness and tears.
Michael's heart flipped in his chest. So she was the immortal one. "I see. Well, that's good isn't it? We don't have to worry about you getting hurt," he cupped her face in his hands. The face he'd thought he'd never gaze upon again.
"Nope, but they still won't let me near guns and stuff because they say I'm too little," Lucy continued to smile then finally looked up at Heath and hesitated. "You're not from here."
"No, but I'm a friend of your fathers," Heath spoke calmly and extended a hand to the small girl. "My name is Heath."
He and Michael had both inwardly decided not to tell her Donnie was his son just yet. That could put a damper on the introduction.
"Oh! Then nice to meet you!" Lucy's little fingers curled around Heath's hand and gingerly shook it.
Michael lifted his head up, looking at Heath then averted his gaze. He had no intention of mentioning their relationship, but his heart still ached from Heath's previous words.
The look on Michael's face caught his attention and he briefly excused the two of them. He gently grasped the human's arm and pulled him from the bedroom, shutting the door behind them. "What's going on?" He asked in a hushed whisper. "You've been out of it for the past few hours."
"Why do you think?" Michael shot back bitterly, unable to hide the venom in his tone. "What you said earlier hurt me. I want to be with you, Heath. You're not going to stop my feelings just because of the hatred between our races. Once this is fixed, you will either stay with me or I will go with you."
He'd never spoken that way to the Masonin before. His voice was full of conviction and confidence. It would have been because he finally felt better, but he knew it was just his determination to be with the people he loved.
Heath's green cat-like eyes widened, and he seemed hesitant to speak. He'd never heard Michael talk that way to him before. Despite it being rather amusing, he wasn't going to laugh in his face and make matters worse. "I don't know if it would work out or how people would react."
"Keep saying that and make yourself feel better, fine. But that's not how I feel and I swear to God if you keep this up I may or may not end up hating you," Michael lowered his gaze. It wasn't entirely true, but he knew that the more Heath kept saying such things the more he'd get hurt. He'd have to convince himself he didn't care about the Masonin anymore.
Again, Heath's eyes widened and he placed a hand on the top of Michael's head. "No need to get so upset about this. I don't want you to end up any more hurt than the pain I've already caused you," he wrapped his arms gently around the smaller male, offering him a short hug.
Michael accepted the hug, returning the best he could. A soft giggle caught his attention and looked to the door to find his daughter watching the two of them with a bright smile.
"You like him, don't you daddy? You're more than friends. That's good though! But if you got married, would I have to call one of you mommy?" Lucy questioned, tilting her head in an inquisitive manner.
Michael ignored the quiet laugh from Heath and smiled at the young girl. "No. But let's not talk about that right now. For now, we have to-"
The sound of running footsteps caught all of their attention and they all spotted Lester running up to them with a panic-stricken look. "All of you get in that room now. Donnie's here, with several other people. They have guns. But don't worry, we've figured out how to kill him," Lester held out a paper to Heath.
Michael wanted to see how, but Heath was holding the paper out of reach. Heath hesitated and looked at Lester with a small frown. "I'm guessing you will need my help with this."
Something in his voice was sad and distant, but Michael figured that was because of the fact they were talking about killing his large lover's son. So he remained silent and ushered his child back into the bedroom so they could hide.
Heath turned to face Michael, a faint smile on his lips. "Stay here, okay? I'll be back shortly to make sure you're safe."
Michael watched as the two Masonin's hurried off down the hall and pushed the door shut. He turned to face Lucy, whose face was pale and frightened.
"Daddy, I don't want him to get me again."
Shaking his head, he hurried to her side and wrapped her in a tight hug. "He won't."
