Episode 14: Thank You, Next
Emily and Nicholas regrettably couldn't stay in Los Angeles any longer because late in the night, the director had called to tell her that the photoshoot they scheduled got pushed up. Therefore, Emily had no choice but to start packing her bags after they apologized for any inconveniences it may cause.
Nicholas, having completed all the business he had in the city, decided it would be best to leave with her.
He was only disappointed that he couldn't bring her to see one of his favourite Broadway show as a present to her. This was planned days in advance when he was offered tickets by an acquaintance who was apart of the production, but now they had to go to waste.
It couldn't be helped.
Work was important.
Whether it was for him or Emily, the fact remained the same.
Emily had booked the flight in a hurry but when Nicholas asked for the flight number and information, she paid him no mind, not even as they made their way to the airport.
Again, in case any of them got recognized, they decided to board separately.
She could see the confidence in Nicholas' stride as he walked before her to enter the plane.
Pride swelled in her chest as well as jealousy when people who passed by couldn't help but to have their stares linger on him.
Her phone rang in her pocket as soon as he had disappeared.
She saw Nicholas' name on the screen.
A silly smile made its way to her lips before she answered.
"Yes?" Emily gave a simple answer as she paid attention to the line that was moving before her.
"I had asked David to upgrade your business class tickets to first class."
Emily looked ahead of her in the direction that he had vanished as if she could see him. Her face held an expression of perplexity.
Nicholas could be so predictable at times yet she always found herself being surprised by him; he was such an oxymoron in the making.
"Does it make you uncomfortable?"
That you're spending excessively on a flight again? Hell yes, I am indeed uncomfortable by the thought!
Emily took a deep breath, coercing herself to see things from his lens.
She knew he was just trying to make their travel as convenient and worry-free as possible but the squandering has got to stop.
Maybe she should just announce their relationship and get it over with.
At least, by then his expenses would be reduced as a result.
But spending lavishly seemed to be apart of who Nicholas was - it was in his blood, a natural habit of his that was highly irrevocable.
What the hell am I saying at this point?
"No." Emily did her best to sound unfazed.
"That was very...nice of you."
Nicholas poked the side of his mouth with his tongue. He was fighting the smile that wanted to overtake his face.
He knew she would be pleased by it.
"Good." Nicholas put away his luggage as he took a seat and waited impatiently for her. "I will see you in a minute."
"Alright then."
