Episode 72: Drawing The Line
"I'll make you a cup of tea." Nicholas said while showing a low-spirited Emily to the couch.
She sat down on the piece of furniture, her eyes looking at nothing in particular.
When he returned with the mug in his hand, the distracted expression was still on her face. He handed her the hot beverage before taking a place beside her.
With a tilt of his head, he watched her as she sipped on it before finally offering, "Do you want to talk about it?"
Her eyes were coated with a layer of sadness before she placed down the cup on the table before them.
"It just all feels so surreal."
His hands found hers and squeezed it tightly. "You can let go of what happened now, Emily. Everything is fine."
"You should have seen the look on their faces, Nicholas." She whispered softly. "I don't think I've ever seen them so desperate. Terrified even. I've never seen them like that in all the years of knowing them."
"It's understandable with the terrible situation they were in. Nobody deserves to face something like that. Not even they do. I'm just relieved everything is okay with both mother and child."
She nodded in agreement.
"Me too."
He ran his hand through her soft hair before patting the top of her head.
Her lips curved up slightly at his caress and he caught it.
"How about we watch a movie?"
"Please don't let it be another one of mine."
"That's very egotistical of you to assume, Emily." He said seriously and she fell for it for a second, eyes widening but then he smiled. "But no, it's not one of yours. I was thinking something more along the lines of Olivia Star's."
And that's when Emily lost it.
"Her again?"
His chuckle came at how quickly something like that brought back the life in her.
"It's amazing to see how jealousy brings back the usual you."
Her shoulders sagged upon realizing what he had done.
"Ha, ha. Not funny."
His eyes were still smiling with the joke. "I believe it is."
"What is a joke to you is death to me, Nick."
He rolled his eyes at her exaggeration and she slapped his thigh because of it. Her cheeks instantly heated up at how firm they were. Of course, being consumed by every batting of her eyelashes, he caught sight of it.
"Impressed?" He asked before reaching for her hand to place upon it confidently. "You can have another feel if you want."
"Shut up, Nick."
It was within her personality to become aggressive whenever what he said got her feeling embarrassed.
Knowing that much, the guy still leaned forward, hungry for more bashful reactions from her, especially the heating of her cheeks.
"Have you finished up that homework I asked of you to do?"
She avoided his intense eyes, looking at his lips but because of how inviting they were in such a natural state of pink plumpness, the front of his shirt was her next best choice.
"I thought I already told you that I won't be doing it."
She heard him hum lowly and it was too easy for him to leave her like that.
