Episode 59: Aurora

A delicate arm with pinched fingers tugged at the edge of Nicholas' shirt. He glanced down to see a pair of soft, hazel eyes staring up at him with a pout before they gestured over to the transparent glass window. An ice cream shop. Emily started wide-eyed like a kitten waiting for a treat as she held onto him with a hesitant grip.

"Which flavor would you like me to get?"

Her eyes lit up instantly.

"Vanilla, please."

She was adorable, but then again he was biased.

He patted her head before finding his way into the store to buy the ice cream for her.

During that period, Emily was standing outside on the sidewalk and watched as the streets became more and more deserted. The rush of people from earlier in the day had disappeared and they had walked around freely and ended up here at a local shopping avenue.

Glancing down at her watch, it told her that it was almost seven o'clock and late enough for them to start preparing to catch the next train coming in the following hour.

"One vanilla ice cream for the beautiful lady."

The smile which was influenced by Nicholas' cheesy words had reached her ears. Even though she got second hand embarrassment from hearing it, the way she liked such compliments could not be hidden.

Nicholas handed her the single cone carefully, making her giddy as she brought the treat to her lips.

"Thank you."

Upon the first bite, the way her eyes expanded happily told all there was to the creamy flavor of dessert.

"Good?"

With her mouth full all the brunette could have done was nod excitedly which brought a lopsided smile to Nicholas' face.

Instinctively, his fingers went and pinched her cheeks. Emily moaned in pain at the sensation of being attacked mixed with the coldness of the treat inside her mouth.

Sparing him a playful glare as she swallowed everything, he only laughed in response.

That only made her ten times cuter than she was a second ago.

He gave her an alluring smile. "Looking like that you're practically begging for me to pinch your cheeks, darling."

She looked away from him in a tantrum before an idea came to her.

Bringing the cone to Nicholas' lips, Emily basically forced him to taste the ice cream.

"You should try it. It's really good."

Wary of her sudden change of attitude, especially with those constantly blinking eyelashes of hers to give the perception of being innocent, he stared at her for a while.

She sighed before pulling away and taking another lick.

"I guess I'll just eat it all then. You're the one who's gonna live with regrets for not experiencing this greatness. Creamy, delicious greatness."

Leaning downwards, he succumbed, silently giving her permission to give him some.

She smiled in the way girls did when they were masking mischief, and despite the chilly day Nicholas could not help but feel warm.

Just as the ice cream was about to reach his lips, the woman pulled her hand back swiftly and smirked at him as she ate again but with exaggeration.

"Mhmm! This is some good stuff!"

She had been so sloppy with her trick that it even got to the edge of her mask which had been pulled down beneath her chin. Because there were not many people around she wasn't as conscious about being recognized.
