Episode 30: Future Plans

The evening had fallen down like a dark red theatrical curtain, putting a closing to the sensual day the experimental couple had been engaged in. Sitting contemplatively in the living room on a heart-shaped couch, a hot flame blazed before them in the modernized version of a fireplace as the two of them held warm cups of beverages within their hands, the heat radiating to every single part of their bodies.

Emily wiggled her sock-covered feet as she sat with them propped beneath her, and Nicholas, noticing her continuous ansty body language, placed his laptop aside as he regarded her with an amused gaze.

"Are you feeling unsettled by something?"

Emily looked to him with doe eyes.

Within his unimpeded vision of her, she looked like a deer caught in headlights, only that it was the fireplace lighting up the side of her face as her lips hovered over the steaming cup of coffee. They were pink, soft and puckered, and beyond a doubt, insiting him to take carnal action.

How can a woman be such an unwavering mixture of cute and sexy? The man who was being tempted asked himself internally.

Nicholas couldn't oppose the quick-witted answer of his subconscious; A woman can if she is Emily Pinault.

Had it not been for the self-control the man had garnered over the years spent celibate following the disastrous chapter of Molly in his life and a few hook-ups here and there that required a timely manner of a conclusion, Nicholas would have violently attacked Emily with his stowed affection for her.

Instead, he took a deep breath as her cheeks were kissed with a deep red and not by him.

"There's nothing in particular that I ponder on, Nicholas. Did my appearance seem awfully pensive to you?"

His lips twitched at her attitude.

"More than the usual? I'm afraid, no. I take back my intrusive question, little one."

She refrained from rolling her eyes at him. The woman disliked when he called her that to a certain degree. It felt somewhat...belittling. Like how a boy who had a crush on her in middle school would call her 'chicken legs!' because she never wanted to play with him.

"I beg your pardon. I don't appreciate your sarcasm, young sire." Her eyes blinked at him continuously, attempting to display her peeved state.

"Well, young miss, I could say the same about your temperamental nature as of this moment."

Emily paused, looking at him thoughtfully before she bursted out into a fit of laughter.

Nicholas joined her when he realized just how silly they had been acting.

"I'm sorry-" she said between hiccups, "It's just that...we just sounded so much like a fifty year old married couple from the 18th century."

"Your outlook isn't very far off as we are indeed married, but as for it being for fifty years, I bet we can top that."

Her heart rationally softened at his words. "You're crazy."

"I prefer 'not of sound mind' thank you very much."

Emily sighed almost quietly.

Her heart had been but slightly touched by the conflicts of her career in the moment she stared at the burning flames. She was thinking about the future and where she wished to go after this series that she was filming. With Talia's help, as a client, she was rest assured that there will be a successful path laid ahead of her, but as for which one would be the most rewarding for her as an individual? She had no idea.
