THE DAY HAD finally arrived.

The Spring Fever Dance.

And just as Mina had finished putting the last coat of mascara on her eyes, Diana burst into the room. The short aunt's pale cheeks were flushed with excitement and there was obvious pep in her step.

Mina, shocked, stared at her aunt in appal, not at all used to seeing the short woman move in such a hurry.

True, she had once been visiting Diana at the hospital when one of her aunt's patients went into cardiac arrest but that had been probable cause to move in a panic. The poor man had been dying. And Mina...

Mina was just getting ready for a dance.

A dumb, stupid, three hour long high school dance that would definitely not be all that important and Mina didn't see why she had to go. She didn't even have a date, for god's sake.

She was going solo. Stag. All by her lonesome. And what's more pitiful and embarrassing than going by yourself to a high school dance?

Not going, Mina supposed. Or just go to stalk your crush-slash-best friend and his date. Which she definitely wasn't going to do. At all.

And it was for the sake of her ego, despite not having any interest in going other than to growl, groan and complain, that Mina was going to the Spring Fever Dance.

Now, here she was, face made up and the blue dress still new against her skin. As Mina assessed herself in the mirror, she thought she looked okay. Not particularly bad, not particularly good. Okay.

Diana seemed to think so too, as upon seeing her niece dressed up, she had gasped and held her hands over her heart dramatically.

Mina rolled her eyes, though she secretly loved the reaction. Not that she would say that.

"Calm down, Di. It's just a school dance." Mina said, setting the tube of mascara down as she spoke. Diana shook her head, clamping her hands tightly.

"私の小さなミニはすべて大人になった. (My little Mini is all grown up.)" Diana said fondly, gazing at her niece fondly. Mina rolled her eyes playfully, standing and walking to her bed, where she sat criss-cross.

"I feel like a little kid playing dress up."

Diana, noticing the numb way she had said her words, sat beside Mina on the bed, positioning herself carefully but closely from the teen. She put a comforting hand on Mina's and nudged her.

"What's going on, Mini? Do I need to beat someone up?" The aunt threatened and Mina chuckled.

"No, no." She said, then paused, thinking. "I - Diana, did I make the right decision, breaking up with Alex?"
