"IT'S BEEN AWHILE." The red symbiote purred, moving around carefully, while Mina drew her swords, keeping an eye on it. Predator versus prey.

"Not long enough." Mina replied and as Carnage chuckled deeply, she shivered before she remembered. Emotionless.

Nevermind that Ned could be torn to shreds at any second.

Nevermind that at all.

Though Mina had her emotions in check, Carnage must have been able to sense her agitation. It gently flexed it's fingers around Ned's stomach, who gave a small terrified whimper.

Mina wasn't sure what to do. Obviously she had to get Ned away and safe. That was priority #1, but the question was how?

Stall. Just stall, at least until something happens or you get a genius, brilliant plan in that thick skull of yours.

"So, where have you been all this time?" Mina asked neutrally, making sure to avoid looking at Ned. If she looked too much, maybe Carnage would decide he was feeling peckish.

Carnage traced a line down Ned's face, slicing the soft skin open and drawing dots of blood before answering. Maybe it knew she was stalling.

"All over. This city has many, many fine places to eat." It answered and Mina nodded.

Think you idiot, think!

"Not staying at the dojo anymore?" Mina, the dumbass, asked.

"No. There were too many people coming in and out, taking our food and trying to kill us. It got annoying."

Mina nodded, suddenly struck with an idea. Of course. The shuriken.

If she could throw them just right, they might be able to cut Carnage and make it retreat, leaving Ned alone. Then, she could come in and grab him and bingo bango, one problem solved.

She'd have to move fast, though. And it was risky but what else could she do?

Sheathing her sword, Mina made her decision.

As Mina reached for her shurikens, she knew she couldn't take a deep breath to calm down but in her mind, she tried to reassure herself. It would be okay.

Wasn't it always?

Without warning, Mina quickly threw the sharp, spinning, stars at Carnage, who raised one bulky arm up to shield itself. Not expecting the razor-sharp blades to sink into it's skin, it stumbled back in pain.

Ned was now alone and free.

Mina booked it over to him, feeling her heartbeat out of her chest as she raced to the other side of the gym. She didn't care if her emotions were out of control, she was going to save Ned.
