Chapter Three

Ellesmere's POV

"Elles, are you done yet? I'm starving!" Anne whined from behind me. She hated when i played games on my mobile, it took all, and i mean all of my attention.

"Just a few more minutes and I'll be done."I answered unsure of whether i'd be willing to put down the game.

"But you said that thirty minutes ago! "She whined again.

Oh Bother!!

"Fine!" I said then tucked my phone into my back pocket. "Let's eat. So what you hungry for? French fries, spaghetti, salad? Your call!."

"Can we have new potatoes sauteed in butter and thyme?" Anne asked me batting her lashes like a doll.

"No. We're having spaghetti and meatballs but i'll go with chilli sauce instead."

The waitress took our order and in no time, Anne was too engrossed in her spaghetti to listen to a word i said.

Anne Constance Belcher was my only friend and ally. She was from the East End of London with an accent as thick as frozen butter. She was the only person on earth besides my mom who knew about my very complicated life story. I'd met her in a gastropub in Texas. She was nineteen and had just graduated from high school. Truth is, i began to like her when i watched her use a robotic Klaxon to frighten a bunch of thugs that tried to bully her.

She became like a sister to me. She knew j had super powers and even though she fainted when she saw me use them, she still accepted me. She also knew my real identity.

On several occasions, Anne had helped me escape S.H.I.E.L.D.  She was all brains and computer while i was skills and wits and electricity of course.

I could remember the very first time Anne spoke to me, i didn't hear a word she said, but as our friendship grew, i found it easier to understand her accent. She also knew i hated the Avengers, they had something of mine and i was going to get it back.

The day came to a slow end as Anne and i walked back to our temporary home in Spokane. Yeah, temporary was our watchword.

The brooding look on my face made Anne place a hand on my shoulder.

"what is it Ellesmere?" She only used my full name when she was in one of her "no jokes mood" and when i woke her up too early on a Sunday.

"I want him to know who i really am, you know. Mother doesn't want that, she wants me to be a normal American adult but i'm not and she knows that too. I'm not normal and i wanna see my father."

"It's okay, Elles. But you know they'll see you as what they think you are - a criminal, an enemy. Even if you stole the moon to prove otherwise, they wouldn't believe you" She said rubbing her hands on my back.

I smiled weakly then chuckled at Anne's words "even if you stole the moon!" That would be some theft.

"They won't stop looking for you. We have to move by morning." Anne said looking around as the day grew darker. She was two years older but who would believe it?.

She was twenty five with short brown hair and green eyes. She was quite tall but not as tall as me. Her petite figure made her look younger.

I, on the other hand, was a total opposite, twenty three with straight blonde hair, grey-blue eyes and "shaped like a Coca Cola" Anne would say.  I knew i had my father's looks in a feminine way. Anne said so, mom said so too. It was very obvious.

"Elles!!" A high pitched scream made me look back sharply.

A black device shaped like a disc flew right by my ear. Someone had grabbed Anne pulling her towards a black van.  I quickly slipped on my mask, then i recognized the men in black and the vans - S.H.I.E.L.D.

"Run!!" Anne yelled at me. "Get away from here. Go! Now!."

All sense of reasoning was lost as i darted across the street with eight men giving me a hot pursuit and a rain of bullets. They didn't mean to kill me, i knew that, they wanted me to get injured but i managed to dodge every bullet. I couldn't afford letting S.H.I.E.L.D catch me. 

I could always come back for Anne later but right now, i had to get away. Using my sonic speed, i raced out of town all the way to Salem in just 8 minutes.

I had to lay low in Oregon before deciding on what to do with the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Douche bags.
