Roman was dying, they all knew it. He was lying in his bed, Virgil holding his hand. That's all he could focus on, Virgil's touch. Virgil knew he had to be strong for his boyfriend, but he didn't know what he would do after.
"Virgil?" Roman asked in almost a whisper. "Yes" Virgil said, knowing Roman would be taking his final breaths very soon. "Could you... sing something?"
It was such a simple request, but it took Virgil a second to process what he had said. "Of course" He said in a whisper. Pulling himself together to confort Roman, he sang "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are grey. You'll never know, dear, how much I love you. Please don't take my sunshine away." Tears were now starting to escape Virgil's eyes, but he kept singing, trying to keep his voice steady. "The other night, dear, as I lay sleeping, I dreamed I held you in my arms. But when I awoke, dear, I was mistaken, And I hung my head and I cried." Virgil was struggling to keep his voice steady as Roman closed his eyes and his breathing slowed. "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are grey. You'll never know, dear, how much I love you. Please don't take my sunshine away"
His voice was shaking by the time he finished the song. As he held back sobbs he watched Romans chest fall and not rise again. He was gone... Virgil was sobbing now, he had no idea about what to do now. His life seemed to stop then, as the most important person in his life was gone. He cried himself to sleep, quietly singing between sobs "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine... You make me happy, when skies are grey. You'll never know, dear...how much I love you. Please-Please don't take my sunshine away..."
