(bold is flashbacks)The apartment was quiet; just like every day since he left. It wasn't his fault, of course, he could never do anything wrong. He was perfect in everything he did, no matter what it was.
Logan walked down the stairs to the kitchen, getting ready to make dinner. He used to always make dinner with Patton, it was lonely now. He decided to make beef with broccoli, something simple and delicious. As he started cutting the flank steak, he remembered what it what like to cook with him. "Be careful not to cut yourself!" Patton would say, "here" he helped Logan carefully cut up the meat before stir frying it.
Logan missed Patton's touch while he was cooking. He was brought back to reality by a pain in his finger. He had accidentally cut himself. I guess I need him more than I thought Logan thought, going to get a band-aid before he ruined the dinner.
He went back to cooking, preparing the broccoli and adding spices to the stir fry.
As Logan worked Virgil was outside. He was looking up at the stars, the clear night making it perfect for stargazing. He missed lying in the grass with Patton, he would always make up the most amazing stories about each of the constellations. He pointed up the Orion constellation, "That one is Orion, I know that story!" Virgil smiled at Patton's childlike joy as he told his version of Orion's tale. It was so much quieter without his stories, and as he found the Orion constellation, he quietly told himself the story Patton told him.
The house was quiet except for the quiet sounds of the movie Roman was watching. It wasn't the same without Patton. His face glowed from the screen, reflecting back his radiant smile. They sang loudly with the movie, laughing when they finished their rendition of 'I'll make a man out of you.' Singing along to the movie wasn't the same without another voice, another smile, Patton.
Nothing was the same since that fateful day, and they would never forget him. He was there in everything they did, no matter how big or small, whispering words of encouragement. It was never the same in the house, but they made sure that they made him proud.
