'I'll be home by 5'
'Where are you now?'
'I'm just getting off the highway'
'STOP TEXTING ME AND DRIVE THE FREAKING CAR!'
'Ok ok, calm down'
'I love you'
Virgil was still waiting on a response from his boyfriend 'He probably actually put his phone down.' He looked at the time, 4:47. 'He'll be home soon, I'll start dinner, surprise him'
Virgil started boiling the water to make pasta, taking his mind off Roman for the time being. As he was working he noticed it had started raining. 'A bit of background noise, nice'
He repeatedly checked the clock, starting to get worried as it got closer to 5 without a word from Roman. 'It's fine, he'll be home any minute making a 'grand' entrance as usual' Virgil was still worried though, that maybe something bad happened to him. 'Deep breath, it's fine, see, it's only 5:01, he might be in a little traffic, that's all'
As five minutes became 10, then 15, Virgil began to really worry 'What if something really bad happened!? He would have told me if it was traffic, maybe he just forgot...' Just then his phone rang. Virgil practically ran to where it lay on the table, answering it without even looking at who was calling.
"Hello?"
"Hello, is this Virgil Sanders"
Virgil's face fell "Y-yes, why?"
"It's your boyfriend, Roman. He was in a car crash, I'm sorry, he didn't make it"
It felt as though he was underwater. He couldn't breath 'He's dead.... No, nonono, he can't be dead'
"Sir, are you alright?"
Virgil fell to the floor 'no, he can't be gone, he's invincible, he can't die, he just can't'
"Wh-what happened?" He asked shakily.
"A truck slipped on the wet road and into his car, I'm so sorry"
Tears were running down his face as he sobbed, the phone falling to the floor, forgotten.
"W-why!!" he choked out, even though no one could hear.
There was a funeral, but to Virgil it was just a blur of tears. He brought flowers to the grave, a beautiful bouquet of pink carnations, primrose, and red roses.
The apartment was silent and the flowers were wilting, just like Virgil's heart.
