/Trigger warnings/ Death, sadness
"How long do I have"
"A month at most, I would suggest going into hospital"
"No! I'm sorry, I just want to spend the time with my family"
"I understand"
Patton walked out of the doctors office, his head swimming with the news. 'Only a month' he thought, starting his car and heading home.
As he walked in the door he was immediately greeted with Roman and Virgil arguing. "What's going on?" Patton asked.
"HE STARTED IT" They yelled in unison, pointing to the other. Patton just shook his head, a small, sad smile at his lips 'I'm definitely going to miss coming home to this' he thought, going to see what Logan was doing.
'I should tell them all tonight' He thought as he climbed the stairs to Logan's room. The others knew he had been feeling sick and had been going to the doctor, but they thought it was getting better.
He reached the door and knocked. He heard a chair slid across the floor, then the door opened. "Hello, Patton" Logan said "How was your appointment?
"Fine I guess" 'Oh god, how will I tell them now?!?' "What are you doing?" Patton asked, changing the subject. Logan looked suspicious at the sudden change of topic, but just went with it.
"I'm just reading" He responded
"Okay, have fun reading, I'm going to start making dinner" Patton said, turning and heading downstairs to the kitchen. Logan looked at his watch, it read 4:34. 'It's a little early to start making dinner' Logan thought, but he just assumed Patton was going to make something that would take longer than usual, and turning back to his book he let himself relax.
Patton was making spaghetti and meatballs, which doesn't take that long to make, but Patton had to stop and take breaks, sitting at the table for a minute before getting back to work.
Dinner was ready by 5:30, taking longer than usual, but only Logan noticed, and he didn't think much of it, Patton does get distracted easily.
They all sat down and started eating, except for Patton, who was lost in thought 'Only a month, and the others still don't know. I don't want them to worry, hmm'
"Patton, you ok?" Virgil asked, seeing that Patton was just staring at his plate
"Wha- oh, ya, just lost in thought"
"Okay..."
Patton started eating, seeing the concerned look in Virgil's eyes.
When everyone was done eating, and the table was cleared, Roman offered up a movienight. Patton was exhausted, but didn't want to worry the others, so he sat down with them for the movie, 'Lion King'
By the time the movie was over Patton was half asleep and ready to go to bed. He got up as the others were talking about the movie, and headed toward the stairs when something one of them said caught his attention "Mufasa's death gets me every time, I don't know how Simba dealt with it as well as he did."
Patton walked up the stairs, collapsing in bed, his mind running. 'It's going to be so bad when they find out... I don't want them to go through this...' His mind was so full of thoughts, but his body was exhausted. He ended up falling into an unsteady sleep, waking up throughout the night.
By the next morning, Patton was just as tired as last night, and did not want to get out of bed.
This cycle continued for the next week, accompanied with worried glances from the others, and constant reassurance from Patton. He was still concerned at how the others would react, so he didn't tell them, putting it off for the next day.
As the week came to an end, Patton was in terrible shape. He couldn't sleep and was so anxious he could barely eat. The others were very concerned, and wanted to confront him about it, but when they did he would just change the subject.
Logan confronted Virgil and Roman, hoping that if they all went to Patton he might open up to them. They decided to go to his room, as he had been spending most of his time there.
Logan knocked on his door, and when there was no response he pushed the door open a crack "Patton?" There was no response. He opened the door all the way and stepped inside, immediately going toward the bed where Patton lay, barely conscious and deathly pale. "PATTON!" he exclaimed, going to his side.
"Oh..hey" Patton said weakly.
"What happened! I thought you said you were getting better?"
"The doctor gave me a month last time I saw him, guess he was wrong" He said with a small smile, trying to lighten the atmosphere even though he knew it wouldn't work.
"Why didn't you tell us?" Roman asked, his voice full of concern and sadness.
"I didn't want you to worry..."
"Oh Patton" Logan said, pulling him into a hug.
The room went quiet, everyone was trying to stay strong for the others. As Patton's breathing slowed he gently held Logans hand, squeezing it. Logan looked down as Patton whispered "I'm sorry"
His chest fell then didn't rise. Tears were running down everyone's faces as they grieved. Logan slowly released Patton's hand, letting it fall to the bed. He straightened up, and walked out of the room, trying to regain composure.
As soon as he closed the door to his room he fell, sobbing, devastated as the weight of what just happened crashed down on him.
Thank you for reading. Sorry that the ending is a little abrupt, I don't know how to end this and I don't want it to be super long. I hope you enjoyed it anyways, bye!
