I cycled

I cycled.

Maybe to the convenience store,
I decided.

Just to cool my head.

It was a little late,

but the neighbourhood
was a safe area.

It was around two corners,
and then I had to cross
the main street
to reach the shopping district.

It would take seven minutes,
and that was plenty
to calm myself down.

I rolled my bicycle
to the side of the store,
and set it down.

My phone was quiet
in my pocket,

The night was silent
for the hour of the ox.

"Welcome,"
the storekeeper was rather glum.

He sounded exhausted,
like any other at this time.

He didn't look up from the counter,
not even to greet the customer.

He kept his eyes closed,
as if he was asleep.

I found it eerie,
but disregarded it.

It's too early in the morning
to not have everything
be just fucking eerie.

A rude shopkeeper was
the last thing I needed
to be worried about now.

I wandered around
the otherwise empty store,
gazing at the magazines
I didn't read.

1. She had to obey rules, or lose HP.

Finding a can of coffee,
I pulled it out of the fridge.

2. PvPs are physical and they hurt.

Choosing a roll of cake,
I picked out a bag of chips.

3. Three deaths and you're out.

There were
four basic statements
I had come to realize as
New Rules.

『 DENIZEN 』
is nearby!

「 Challenge to a PvP? 」
YES *           NO

4. You cannot reject a PvP challenge.

I chose NO.

When I brought them
to the counter,

I realized the shopkeeper wasn't
sleeping, nor was he being rude.

He was blind.

The store was right by my house,
But I'd never seen him before.

I was interested,
because he was about my age,
yet a rather admirable youth.

But he wasn't someone
I'd talk to.

Conversation seemed
intimidating, somehow.

"Thanks for your purchase,"
a practiced, professional phrase.

I returned with my own
"Thanks", a mumble,
and then,
I went home.
