"Sul, can we talk?"

I desperately needed it.

I wasn't suspended but I stayed home.
The rumours were too much for me.

So I whispered into my phone
and hoped my best friend
would talk to me.

She didn't.

She wasn't there that night
to talk to me,
and that was strange.

But she called back the next day,
because classes were suspended
for the media to quell down.

And she tried to have a conversation.

We facetimed.

She looked exhausted,
more so than I was.

Her dark circles sagged
so deeply into her eyes,
but she said she couldn't sleep.

"Are you getting
Dream Depression?"

I asked, worried,
and no-- I couldn't
lose a friend now.

I was going to help her
out of it.

But she chuckled,
and quickly dismissed
my suggestion.

"Of course not!"
her laugh was dull.
"See you in school next week?"

I nodded,
but I didn't think I would
be able to go to school
any more.
