Happy New Year!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The toxicity of your feelings left you powerless.
He was a black hole, swallowing your emotions and never spitting anything back out.
Your mind was ravenous, feral and unbearably loud. However much you attempted to dispel the thoughts of him, that near-mysterious knave, it was never enough. Your efforts fell far short of completion, and on deaf ears. On the outside, you masqueraded as a quiet, lonesome girl, timid in nature and devoid of responsibility. The two of you were astrologically incompatible, but that didn't stop you from trying to win him over, albeit rather subtly. He seemed less interested in you than one of your fellow female colleagues, although (as you were overjoyed to discover) she already had a lover. Still, you wagered that it complicated matters considerably; he was forever talking to her, and her alone. You almost felt like an outcast within your own work space. The boy at whom your affections were directed was tender-hearted and empathetic, and initially, you got along quite well. However, as your feelings developed, growing stronger and stronger at every single sunrise, you started to keep each other at a distance. It ripped a gaping hole in the fabric of your heart, but it persisted.
At some harrowing point, you managed to muster up the courage to ask for his phone number, which he provided. Although, the expression he wore reminded you that the two of you were not close, nor were you even really friends. It stung, like you had accidentally swarmed a hornet's nest, and were now facing the consequences. You were always the one messaging him, initiating short-lived conversations, and crying over unanswered texts. Opening up Youtube, you decided to reach out to various platforms for love and relationship advice, but they didn't provide much closure. Basically, he acted nervous and awkward around you, which could have been positive, if only he answered your messages. You looked for signs that his body unconsciously gave, however you found none. Sure, you had caught him staring on occasion, but that meant nothing in the grand scheme of things - you frequently zoned out, your (e/c) eyes inadvertently focusing on a particular person.
Soon, your schoolgirl-esque feelings had transformed into something of an obsession, as your best friend warned.
One of the pictures from his gallery on Facebook became your phone screen, and you were constantly scrolling his profile, memorising the names and birth-dates of all his family/friends. Also, you were trying to scout out the competition. This socialite had a number of photographs in which he could be seen laughing amongst a rather large group - one of which happened to be his previous girlfriend. She glinted like stars against the night sky. She embodied all the qualities you admired, and her naturally beautiful visage was streaked with make-up, making her irresistible. The worst part? They had remained incredibly close after their separation, and she had been the one to dump him, not the other way around, which posed a large problem. Apparently she had hacked into his brain, because during the few occasions you had managed to hold up conversations with him, he brought her up at least three times, referring to her as 'my ex'.
After relating everything to your grandmother, she reasoned that he was a waste of space, however, his mother seemed quite fond of you, and so you continued to hint at your affections, to no avail. He either wasn't latching on to them, or he just didn't care. You silently prayed it was the former; he was such a lovely, genuine person, that your heart would shatter just as easily as your perception of him. Your boss had appeared to notice an invisible red string connecting the two of you, since he was forever forming jokes about how good you would look in each other's embrace, or just generally trying to palm him off with you.
Examples of this included:
"So, when are you two getting married then?"
"(C/n) hasn't got a girlfriend! Did you hear that, (Y/n)?"
