Perhaps it was simply something you had ingested, but you were currently experiencing the most horrible feeling. You had never felt anything like it before - an uncomfortable bile was bubbling away in the pit of your stomach, and the mating bite on the back of your neck burned violently, as if it was attempting to convey an urgent message. It seemed like a harbinger of disaster - the feeling was all too much. You decided right then and there, that something was definitely very, very wrong. The worst part, however, was the dread that came with knowing something really serious must have happened to your beloved. If he was badly injured, you somehow always knew that you would be the first responder. Grabbing your coat, and neglecting your hero costume (there was no time!), you rushed out of the door. In spite of being unaware of his location, you had faith that you would find him. The bond you shared was incredibly strong, and the mark was practically scorching your flesh; it seemed to guide you, or maybe it was even controlling your legs, because before long, you were on the scene. There he was - your lover - battered and bruised, sitting in a small pool of blood, with Dark Shadow at the ready.

Baring your teeth in a menacing manner, you shouted "Get away from him!"

The dark, dramatic bird-boy cursed audibly, and tried to stand. He needn't have bothered, however, since you were already racing towards him. The villain who had so easily and carelessly assaulted your alpha positioned himself to send you straight to the depths of Hell. Before he could blast you to kingdom come, you got close enough to reach out and touch him. This was all your quirk required to activate. From there, you simultaneously jumped backwards and sent out a powerful psionic blast, affecting his mental (and therefore physical) functions. He covered his ears, in a vain effort to shut you out, and then he dropped to the ground, screaming. You rushed up to Tokoyami, ghosting your fingers all over his wounded body. You were immensely panicked, ripping off portions of your clothing and wrapping them around his gashes. Tears of fury and deep sadness welled up in your eyes, cascading down like Niagara Falls. You wanted to be strong for him, you really did, but you knew that he would understand your anguish.

Resting his head atop yours, he raked a calloused hand through your hair, taking care to be as gentle as possible. It stung every time he moved, every time you attached another makeshift-bandage, but he greatly appreciated your work. He could have done without your worrying and your tears, though; he had always been weak to that. You snuggled into his chest, feeling the rise and fall, listening to his heartbeat slowly return to normal. He breathed deeply through his nose, and he drowned in your pheromones. You were exuding distress, anxiety, so he in turn encased you in reassuring scent - one that soothed you, alleviating the tension within your veins. He ensured that you felt comforted, and that you acknowledged the safety of the situation. You had rescued him, and you deserved to find some solace in that fact. His calming pheromones lulled you into a peaceful slumber, and so, despite his injuries, he decided to carry you home. You, his cute little omega. You, who saved him from near-certain death. He must have been unconsciously sending out signals, otherwise you probably wouldn't have come.

"I'm okay now, thanks to you." He whispered, mouth close to your ear.

Tenderly, and with all the love he could muster, he nuzzled the mating mark on your neck. His crimson eyes cast a glance up at the evening sky - the sun was beginning to dim. He would need to visit a hospital. Afterwards, he would settle you down in your nest, where you were likely to remain for the entire week; heats were predictable, and yours was supposed to start tomorrow. Suddenly, he gathered the courage to make a promise to himself: as soon as you woke, he would breach an untouched topic.

He would finally ask about children. For now, however, he was content simply to let you rest. After all, saving someone's life was often a difficult task.
