Belles POV

I lay on the damp ground breathless.

I can hear Ruby groaning as she sits up.

"You okay?" I ask her, getting to my feet, my head still spinning.

"I've been better..." She sighed rubbing the back of her neck.

I look around and take in my surroundings. Some sort of forest? A very bright forest. The many shades of green blinded me so I had to squint to see.

"Where to now then?" Ruby said, picking up the map that had fallen a few feet away from her.

I walked over to her and looked down at the map in her hands and watched the red, pulsing dot.

"The Emerald City," I breathed, reading the tiny curly writing.

We made are way down a long woody path, and reached a field full of red Poppy's which towered up above us.

"So the Emerald City is right through there?" Ruby asked, peering into the field.

"If my map reading skills are correct..." I nod, checking the map one more time.

Ruby stepped in and started to walk, when suddenly, she fell to the ground.

"Ruby!!" I screamed

"Do you not have brains?!"

"Hello?" I span around.

My eyes fell on a hooded figure, lurking behind a tree.

"Who's there?" I shouted nervously into the darkness of the trees.

The figure pondered for a moment and then huffed as it made its way toward us.

"Don't be afraid," the voice sounded annoyed.

Even though we could see the person now, the hood still covered its face.

"You can't just walk into the field," he said as I backed away a little bit.

I turned back round to see Ruby still lying in between the Poppy's, her hair sprawled across he face.

"Your friend was very careless, you cannot just walk into the Poppy's," he said.

"What's happened to her?!" I say, filled with panic.

I try to take a step into the field to get to her, but I was pulled back forcefully.

"If you go in there you will have the same fate, then where would that get you?" The voice said, even more annoyed.

"What do I do?! - wait, your hands," I gasped, noticing his features.

Why, poking out if his gloves was, straw.

The figure sighed.

"Hmm, I wondered when you would notice..." he looked down.

"Well there's no point with this anymore then..." He said pulling down his cloaks hood.

I stifled a squeal as his face appeared.

Standing in front if me, was a living, breathing scarecrow! His face was a bag with sewed on eyes, a mouth and a nose! Tangled straw escaped through the bottom of a grey pointy hat he was wearing.

"Don't be alarmed, I'm nicer than I look," he smiled a little, though his eyes were still sad.

I stared at him, not knowing what to think.

"Wow..." I whispered, smiling myself.

"Now, your friend..." He said frowning in thought.

"Did you not know that the Poppy's make you fall asleep?"
