"I just... I..I...I can't stand you!" Natsuki screamed and Yuri recoiled as if slapped before her expression hardened.
"Fine then perhaps it would benefit you if we broke up." Yuri snapped.
"Maybe it would." Natsuki retorted without thinking...
Oh boy, how was I supposed to focus on my children with three extra children...and we still had like five days left in the cabin leading up to Christmas... ugh...I closed my eyes. I prayed they were young children. I didn't need anymore teenage angst right now. I just didn't. Maree thankfully broke me from my delusions with a slam of the front door.
"Alrighty roo this is the kiddos!" Maree exclaimed and I looked up at the three children huddled around the redheaded woman, the oldest was no older than ten maybe eleven at best. I smiled and looped arms with my wife. "Nice to meet you all my name is Sayori, this is my wife Monika, we're friends of Yuri's." I reassured them to the best of my abilities. The girl had pink hair and forest green eyes...well I wasn't too sure on that ....her eyes were interesting though...but mostly green right?

Yuri raced forward wrapping an arm around the little girl's shoulders.
"This is Adaline but she prefers to be called Lin. She's ten and she loves to read." Yuri explained before she moved on to the little boy in the oversized purple hoody. He had the arms rolled up and it hung past his knees. "This is RJ and he is six, he doesn't talk much, he likes quiet and he's the middle guy so he feels invisible sometimes." Yuri ruffled his dark purple hair and his blue eyes studied us with high levels of uncertainty. Maree was holding a baby in her arms. She had light purpleish pink colored hair, though her eyes were that greenish color like her sister's but with tints of blue like her brother's eyes she was very beautiful. "This is Darby."
I quickly got them all situated, I put Rosie and Naomi in with us and let the new kids have their room as Monika set up the crib we use to use for Rosie.
"So many parts!!! Why can't we just pop up the playpen?" She whined and I rolled my eyes at her dramatics. "Because you sold the playpen two years ago." I chuckled and she sighed grumbling something about how past Monika was a jerk.
Eventually at three in the morning we all settled down and got to sleep. I was so exhausted.
Natsuki's POV:
I felt like death. I couldn't sleep all night ...well this is why Yuri just wanted to be friends...of course it was...she had moved on...she was starting a family...one that didn't include me. I was frozen cold and yet I didn't care. I eventually couldn't sit still another minute longer and left the attic around five a.m.
"Hello." I nearly jumped out of my skin as a little boy stared at me from the kitchen table. He had dark purple hair, like so dark it looked black at certain angles. His crystal blue eyes bore into me and I felt like the kid was staring into my soul or something. "My name is RJ." He whispered and I found myself nodding.
"You one of those kids Yuri's taking in?" I asked feeling numb and the little boy sighed sadly. "Yes." He answered shortly. I frowned eyeing him as he studied me like a caged animal. "I don't bite small fry." I smiled at him and he frowned deeper.
" I don't understand." He murmured and I found my curiosity getting the better of me as I pulled out the chair across from him eyeing him in confusion and maybe concern but I'd never admit that.
"Oh? What don't you understand?" I asked and he looked down biting his lip as he struggled with telling me what was going on through his little mind. "Come on I don't bite...much remember?" I smiled again and he smiled faintly back.
"Why my mama hated me? Why Yuri wants me?" He whispered so softly if I hadn't been leaning forward to listen I'd probably have missed it. "It's not your fault your mama was a bad person. My papa didn't like me much either, nothing you can do about it. Some people are just assholes." I muttered wondering why I was bearing my soul to this little kid who I was trying to hate earlier.
"Your papa hated you?" He whispered and I smiled wryly as I got up to make coffee. "Hate doesn't even begin to describe how much he utterly despised me. He hurt me in more ways than one." I confided as I began making a pot of coffee. "My mama didn't like me, I was a boy. She said I was like my daddy. She ..." He looked down at the table. I felt sympathy for the kid, I really did I mean he was only six.
"My papa hit me too, told me I was worthless, told me I'd never amount to anything." I looked at him as he climbed up onto a stool at the island, pulling his sketch book with him.
"I didn't say she hit me..." He murmured and I shook my head sadly. "You didn't have to kid, assholes like our parents are one in the same." I poured myself a cup of coffee and went about making the kid some cocoa.
"What is your name?" He whispered and I turned stirring the powder into the warm milk and he was looking at me with wide blue eyes. "I'm Natsuki." I slid the mug to him and he actually smiled at me. "And to answer your question about Yuri...it's because she's always been fond of some pretty great people." I winked at him and he tilted his head.
"You think I'm great?" He whispered and I smirked sipping my coffee. "I don't think so kid, I know so." Just then Yuri stumbled from the living room looking half asleep.
"Good morning RJ buddy." She smiled kissing the top of his head. The little boy stiffened at the display of affection and suprisingley kept quiet. "Good morning Natsuki I trust that you slept well." She smiled at me and I sipped my coffee, trying to think of a non bitter comment.
"Not really, why I was willingly up before six a.m." I grunted and RJ smiled up at me. "I'm sorry were you cold last night?" Yuri asked sounding concerned and I shook my head.
"Fine, hope it's okay I gave the kid cocoa." I quickly changed the subject and Yuri glanced down at RJ who nervously held his mug closer as if Yuri was gonna yank it away.
"Oh of course." She exclaimed and smiled at RJ who's face remained guarded. "Is it good buddy?" She asked and he nodded curtly, once. "Yo RJ buddy, you like cupcakes?" I asked and his eyes glistened.
"I never had em before..." I gasped at the same time as Yuri. "You're talking?!" "You've never had cupcakes?!" We exclaimed at the same time.
