Three Weeks Later
Mike left the house early to go to meet a client before they had to go to their own work, which left Rachel, Donna, Harvey and Rosalie for breakfast. The two new supposed house members had dealt with Rosalie when she woke up instead of Rachel, to her relief. She did however have to make the breakfast and entertain at the same time whilst Donna and Harvey got ready. In between chatting about their impending plans and raiding the pancake stack Rachel had compiled, she had almost forgotten what had happened this morning before getting dressed. Something she'd nervously anticipated was going to happen since the frisky encounter the night she got back to Mike.
"Have you decided on anything yet? You have been here for coming up a month! While I appreciate the extra hands and groceries, are you still dwelling in decisions?" She pushed the ambivalence out of her brain, choosing to learn more of the intentions.
"Yes, in fact we have." Donna smiled up, whilst her hands still aided a surprisingly tranquil Rosalie with her fork.
"Ooh, finally, some intentions of yours."
"We decided that we're going to hold off on anything before we know what we both want, and can voice them to each other like two adults. Looking at places here has given me some ferocious second thoughts. We also plan to talk to your dad and Louis about their situations, see if it's even possible for me to leave. We'll be out of your hair soon, promise."
"Which he's not even sure he wants to stop being a lawyer now."
"I didn't think you would. Don't shoot me, but I reckon you're having a mid-life crisis Harvey." He sniggered and nodded admittedly, taking a long swig of coffee.
"Yeah well, I've got a lot to think about."
"I think we all do." Rachel said through a sigh, grabbing a cloth from the drawer and rinsing it in the sink, before beginning to wipe over the kitchen counters.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Donna peered expectantly at her friend.
"Nothing?" She dodged the incriminating eye union, walking over to Rosalie and ruffling her hands through her thick hair, "Baby look at all your beautiful hair! It's so curly!" She used her fingers to thin the curls out, her compliment spread a smile on the toddler's little face.
"Did your hair used to look like that?" Harvey inquired.
"Yep, it sure did. If I left it without getting a blowout it would still look like this. I used to get really annoyed at it, but I'm going to make sure you don't!" She spotted a kiss on her daughter's head before she lifted her off the stool. Rosalie darted away murmuring something about her dad.
"She's adorable." Donna awed.
"Are you sure you don't mind dropping her off today? I promised Mike I'd be at the office soon after he got there, and it's her last session of the week."
"Of course, it's fine. It's also your last working day of the week, so go on, get ready!" Donna ushered Rachel, who then departed the room to gather her files and possessions. She left briskly after to meet Mike at the office, now mind only focussing on what had happened the night she'd got back from New York. She racked her memory for everything that happened, and it always replayed the same bit, like a record player jammed. It was the part that had happened more than once before.
"Mike you're here. How did the meeting go?" They both shared a chaste kiss and Rachel swiped the residue of her lip gloss from his lips.
"It was good, I convinced her to go for the settlement, I think it was a matter of she didn't really know what happens after we don't settle. The company didn't do any more than this, so I just made her realise that everyone knows what they did, and that's enough in itself."
"Woah, Mike Ross knows there's no other dirty laundry in a fortune five hundred company, what's the date I want to write this down." Rachel joked followed by a small laugh and a reasoning smile from her husband.
"Alright... How were our tenants this morning?"
"It seems they are leaving soon! Or so they say. I think they'll go back to New York and mull things over there instead of here."
"Sounds good. How about you and Rosy?"
"I'm fine, a bit debatable this morning but fine, oh that's the other thing, she seems really quiet. I don't know what's wrong with her. Maybe she misses you."
"Or she's going through the terrible twos."
"Or that." She smirked happily.
"What did you mean by debatable?" Mike pressed gently.
"I just felt a tiny bit ill this morning is all. I'm all good now."
"Rachel."
"What?"
"Like, sick?"
"Yes, sick."
"Rach, you know what that could mean."
"I'm aware yes."
"Oh."
"Hey, it's a good thing. It might be happening. But I'm just going to let things run their course for a bit, just to see what goes on."
"Are you sure you're alright?"
"Yes, it's daunting, but it's what we wanted right?"
"Mhm," Mike smiled, but soon noticed the tears threatening at Rachel's deep brown eyes. He pulled her into his familiar hold and let her have a small cry, "It's okay to cry babe. It's okay." He held one of his hands around her, the other holding the back of her head lovingly.
"I know. But the thought of this actually happening again, me being pregnant again. It terrifies me. What if something happens?" She spoke as tears dropped slowly onto his shoulder.
"Rachel, we don't know if you're pregnant yet, okay. If you are, we look on the positives, and be optimistic, but also cautious. We're going to have to do it at some point, and if it's now, then it's now. I love you, remember that okay."
"I will." Her tears seemed to be halting, but they stayed in the hug for a good time longer. It felt right, and safe.
