"english" "japanese"
--
"welcome, miss [last name]."
[name] is greeted by two workers in a two-floor penthouse condominium unit which was bought in a rush by one of her mother's lackeys after she was sent to japan.
it had a modern and simple design, around half the walls were windows and it would, no doubt, be very bright in the day. the unit had a floor area of maybe around three or four hundred square meters and she guessed the place cost maybe around four or five hundred million yen.
she walked to the nearest window and looked outside. the scenery was beautiful. the bright lights of tokyo and the hustle in the streets could be seen. and in a distance was the ua building.
she glanced outside and there was an opening to outside sort of like a veranda with a small pool and a hot tub. "it's not as grand as back home but it's a beautiful place," she thought to herself. "wow. it's times like these that i'm reminded how filthy fucking rich my family actually is and how privileged i must be."
the workers, a butler and a maid, stood in the same spot where they greeted her.
"you both can speak english and japanese right?" [name] turns to then and asks in a casual tone. the driver who fetched her from the airport, passing behind her to carry her luggage to the living room.
"yes, young miss," the butler spoke for both of them.
[name] sighed in relief. "my japanese is pretty rusty so please converse with me in japanese so i can practice," she asks. "i'm gonna go to my room for now."
the room was simple and decorated. it had the bed with the curtains that she liked and a large study desk as well as a walk-in closet, a mini-fridge, and a grand bathroom. like a five-star hotel.
she rolled her luggage carelessly inside and closed the door. jumped onto the bed, she stared at the ceiling.
"japan is beautiful and all. but i'd still rather be at home pursuing my own dream."
she sighed.
"i better unpack and rest up," she said to herself. "god, i'm turning into my own mom now that i'm by myself."
she shuts her eyes and hums.
"maybe i should wander around the city tomorrow."
--
she walks around the city the next day, staying true to her words. the busy streets and bustling crowd was blurred in her mind.
she reads the random signs she passes by, just to get a hold of kanji after not visiting japan in so long.
she looks up restaurants nearby in her phone and ends up dining in a cozy ramen shop that had a good rating online.
"ah, this food would be so much better if i had a couple friends here."
-
after filling herself up, she finds herself in a less urban part of town. a small park with a playground near a residence part of the city.
she sits herself on one of the swings, eating the popsicle she bought just before she wandered off here.
everything was quiet now. the gloomy skies had brought most of the people inside and she couldn't think of a better weather to match her mood.
it's amazing how one little thing can change someone's life entirely isn't it. a mass chain reaction triggered by a small detail that she never saw coming.
did she resent all might for being the reason she had to quit her dream? maybe.
but maybe her mother was more to blame.
she was unsure.
stuffing the popsicle stick into her pocket, she looked up.
it's really over, huh. i've given everything up already.
is this my fault for not being more assertive of my own wants?
or am i overreacting?
[name] couldn't help but shed slow tears.
i'm such a bitch.
there are probably people out there dying to be in my place, but here i am crying by myself in some park because i was made to move to japan and study in some dumb hero academy.
does being a hero really matter that much to my family?
if i don't become a pro hero, am i not a [last name] still?
the drizzle that started earlier started getting stronger. [name] curses the rain. it was mocking her.
"you alright there, girlie?"
------
tl;dr : [name] arrives in japan and is met with a luxury penthouse. she walks the streets of tokyo and ends up pondering and cries to herself in a playground in an attempt to accept her move to japan and giving up her dream. she is greeted by an unknown voice.
