Lies

*Robin's POV*

None of this sounded right to me. How could Maria's dad have faked his own death if I was there to see him actually die? Was what I was seeing just an act to make it look like he was dead? Or the real thing.

I pushed the chair back and walked to Maria's side. "He's lying." I whispered in her ear and put my hand in her shoulder to pull her back.

She looked back at me, disgust and confusion dwelling deep in her eyes. "He's not lying, he's my father!" Se pointed at him. "See? He looks just like my father, sounds just like my father, that must mean he's my father." Her so-called father glared at me then looked softly at Maria.

"Are you accusing me of lying?" He glared more daggers at me. "Because if you are, then I'm afraid I have to tell my servants to escort you back to your cell." I quieted. I didn't want to go back to that horrid excuse of a cell. It was practically just a cave with a few metal bars. It was cold, cramped, and definitely not comfortable. I wasn't going back there, even if it meant having to deal with these obvious lies.

"No disrespect intended but I happened to witness Mr. Merryweathers death." I continued. His glare flickered a little, his dark eyes shifting from a dark brown to a red (like a demon's) then back to normal. Okay that wasn't normal.

"Take him to his cell." He ordered sternly to his nonhuman servants who waited silently at the corners of the table. They shifted ruggedly and waddled towards me. Oh, shit.

"Get away from me." I swiped a dull butter knife and swung it around in my defense. Sure, it wasn't the best weapon but it's good enough. I swept my arm in large motions and cut a deep gash in one of the servants arms, who snarled in pain and the so-called 'Mr. merryweather' to scurry from the table to the darkness of the nearby hallway. Figures.. A coward. "Back, you hideous rodents!" I called and slashed at them more.

"Robin," Maria caught my attention. "We should go, we've overstayed our welcome." She hurried out to a hallway and began running to the exit, which of course I followed closely behind. No way in hell I was staying here any longer.

Once outside the large metal gates and into the dead environment around us we stopped and caught out breaths. Floods of rodents and other servants piled out of the doors and collided with the gates, unable to go any further. There must've been a spell that Bound them to that horrid place.

"That wasnt my father?" Maria asked quietly. I shook my head no, still catching my breath from all the adrenaline pumping through my sore veins. "He lied about the whole 'other species' thing?" I nodded yet again. "The. How do you explain how I'm so good with animals?" She finally turned to me.

"Because you're the moon princess." I answered simply, my breath finally coming back to me and my body relaxing. "He was just some imposter that knew how to shape shift into what you wanted to see the most." I explained in more detail.

She looked down at her dirtied palms, that not too long ago would have bothered her, but now it didn't even phase her. She was changing. Adapting to the environment, becoming a natural at this place that was once foreign to her.
