Saved by the skin of your teeth

*robins POV*
I was deep in thought. This decision could mean the death of my father or me sparing his life for now, though the death option sounded as good as pie.

"Please,Robin." My father pleaded with his eyes widened as he stared down at the knife. "I'm sorry."

His apology meant nothing to me. Absolutely nothing. He's just saying it so I don't kill him, which he knows that I would if I had a good enough reason. "You tried to kill Maria."

He breathed heavily and racked his brain for a reasonable excuse. "Well..." He starts and a smile brushes over his face to lighten the mood, which it doesn't. His cheeks become a rosy color as he can't find an excuse that ill believe.

Maria still stood at my side giving me a look as if to say "you know what the right choice is." She was always more responsible than I was, but that doesn't change a thing. Maria softened me, there was no denying that, and I couldn't control how I felt around her but let's face it, I was uncontrollable. I was loose at the seams, content one moment, then boiling with rage the next. Of course you could blame that all on having to grow up basically raising myself in the woods with an abusive father.

Before I had time to even blink, Maria's uncle, Benjamin, rode in in his beautiful horse with such grace. "What the hell do you think you're doing out here, Maria?!" His face was etched with anger. I'm sure he would yell at me too if it weren't for the fact that I didn't belong to him and he couldn't control me. These were my woods that I roam and he couldn't tell me what to do here. I still hold the knife to my fathers neck, but I couldn't just leave Maria to her uncle Benjamin. I had to fight for her to stay somehow.

At this very moment, I realized what I had to do. I had to let my father go and defend Maria.

I let go of the knife and threw it to the side so he wouldn't pick it up and try to kill me again. He scuttles to his feet and runs away as fast as he could go. Her was saved by the skin of his teeth... For now.

But Maria wasn't.
