She got up, and disappointment flooded her system. "What happened, Ri?" She whispered. She brushed her teeth, changed, said goodbye to her brothers, and boarded the bus. Her question still remained unanswered.
Sierra went through her day, half paying attention. When lunch came around, she sat down and looked around the table. "Hello Maggie, Saf, Dema, and, uh, where's Erin?"
Dema looked at their little group, "I don't know. She was just here."
"She's over there," Safiya pointed at another table where Erin sat among four boys.
Sierra couldn't understand why she felt so drawn to the girl, but she felt the urge to talk to her. She set down her lunch box, "I'll go see if she wants to join us." Sierra walked over to her, "Hey, Erin."
"Hm?" She turned at the sound of her name.
Sierra rubbed her arm nervously, "Are you going to join us?"
"No thanks. I'm perfectly happy here," Erin said. She stared down at the table, stone faced.
One of the boys slung an arm over her shoulder, "Yeah, she likes us better." He winked at Sierra, green eyes flashing. "You can hang out with your girlfriends."
"Um, okay then." She turned and walked back to her table, hurt that Erin hadn't even given her a smile.
