"I don't like the daytime." HABIT grumbled, his arms folding across his chest as he walked alongside his good friend, in the courtyard of Fairmount. Due to the consistently good behaviour that HABIT exhibited and lack of hyper aggression or homicidal tendencies, he was granted a little bit more freedom to wander around and hang out with Patrick.
Only with Patrick.
After all, it had taken enough persuasion from HABIT's nurses and doctors to convince the people in charge that it was safe enough for HABIT to walk around with a bit more freedom. Of course, the nurses would still follow along, but farther behind and slower.
It was about damn time, in HABIT's humble opinion.
"Why not?" Patrick questioned in return, taken aback by HABIT's sudden statement. Of course HABIT, the edgy teenager, would hate sunlight, "Is it because you are too edgy?"
"Oh my god shut the fuck up. No, it's just too bright and it hurts my eyes."
"Woe is me." Patrick gasped melodramatically, before being struck in the ribs by his shorter friend,
"I don't sleep, jackass, so my eyes hurt a lot." HABIT repeated, rolling his eyes as Patrick gave a laugh and shook his head in a fond manner,
"I see! Well, I actually prefer day over the night. I can be up and about, outside, breathing fresh air and busying my mind so I do not have too much spare time to focus on memories or things like that." The blonde teenager admitted, as HABIT sauntered alongside him with his hands in his pockets. Giving a shrug of his shoulders and a nod, HABIT chuckled and glanced to his best friend,
"Well, the night is pretty fuckin' awesome. It's really quiet, I'm not being told what to do or asked questions by people I don't like and it's the only time of the day I don't have to worry about judgement. I get to be fuckin' chill. Also, moonlight is way better than sunlight and you can't change my mind." He juxtaposed, as Patrick listened intently and gave a wiggle of his shoulders, happily basking in the light that the sun provided generously.
It was a beautiful day- the world was a spectrum of vibrant hues- the bright greens of the trees and the grass, the baby blue pastel sky and starkly white clouds that were sparsely dotted along the horizon. Not to mention, the golden sun that reigned above all.
It was certainly a sight for sore eyes- despite what HABIT argued.
Contrary to those sore eyes, HABIT was in high spirits. After all, he'd been granted a little bit more autonomy than he was used to, he was hanging out with Patrick and things were finally going alright. If he had to be totally honest, the dark haired male would admit that Fairmount seemed almost fun at the moment. That was something he definitely didn't expect he'd ever think, let alone say aloud. This place had been torture for the longest time, but now? It was bearable.
He was glad it was bearable for once.
It was contagious, HABIT deemed, when Patrick was happy also. He'd noticed over the period that he'd known the taller teenager- Patrick felt emotions very strongly. There was never an in-between unless there was something weighing on his mind. Patrick was never 'happy' or 'sad' per say, he was always 'euphoric' or 'suffering' and he felt very deeply. The teenager was sensitive, and practically drowned in his emotions at times. Despite this, the euphoria he felt was quite infectious.
That wasn't such a bad thing at times.
"Shade is best in the sun." HABIT mused, dragging Patrick's attention to a tree that stood proud in front of them. Sitting down under the tree, the shorter male gave a sigh of relief and happily hummed to himself- much to the taller other's amusement. Gently sitting down beside his friend, Patrick crossed his legs and contentedly looked out at the other children running around, the staff supervising. The air was filled with the warming laughter from the children as they played and talked and had fun. Hell, there were vibes of joy in Fairmount today and it wasn't even Christmas!
"Do you think things are beginning to look up?"
"Yeah, I do." HABIT responded cheerily, "They kinda have to be, y'know."
Satisfied with this answer, Patrick nodded to himself and sat in a comfortable silence alongside HABIT. Over the course of the year that they'd known each other properly, they'd become very close friends. Of course, they both possessed their equal secrets and stories they wished not to share, but generally they knew much about the other. Connected through joint feelings of curiosity and pain, the two boys were intertwined. Writing their own new paths, Patrick and HABIT were in this life for the long haul.
"I'm almost sixteen." Patrick mused suddenly, giving a light chuckle as he recalled the date. HABIT's attention was grabbed immediately, perking up as the taller male spoke,
"What?! It's almost your birthday?!" He questioned, an eyebrow raised. HABIT had thought that Patrick would have been born in June or July- he just had that kind of vibe about him. But no, apparently not,
"Next Tuesday!" Patrick laughed, "I turn sixteen!" A bright grin settling on his lips as HABIT feigned being grumpy,
"Aw, that means you're gonna be my age. Stealin' my thunder, huh?" He mused playfully, as his best friend gave a light giggle and shook his head,
"Just means I am catching up!" He chortled, as the dark haired male rolled his eyes and leaned back against the rough bark of the tree,
"Try me. You ain't catching up to me anytime soon."
"In height, I am superior."
"Touché, but in strength I am a god compared to you."
"That is very true." Patrick agreed happily, treasuring the happiest moments and loving the fact that this moment was going to become a life-saving memory for him when things got bad again. As long as he could recall the way he was feeling right now- the male was convinced he could get through anything. The happiness he felt, the smiles and the hope that the day had brought him; it almost made it seem like the dark times were worth it, in a way.
If the bad times all ended like this, Patrick concluded, then he'd be more than willing to face them head on.
Then again, Patrick felt more than capable to face the darker thoughts and events head on, because he knew that HABIT would be there. He'd help him every step of the way if he could. Knowing that there was a soul who cared, even just a little bit, was enough.
HABIT was enough, and the sooner he realised that, the better.
