The same dreary library, every single day. Lexi, however, loved the quietness of the place, how it was filled with so many different kinds of books and different fantasy worlds that ached to escape the wooden shelves and explode into people's lives- painting them with a new range of colours and experiences that fuelled their imagination and wildest dreams. Perhaps this is what Lexi adored most about books and literature in general- it was an outlet and a way to escape.
Gently brushing back a strand of light hair to behind her ear, the female sat at the main desk in the library. After all, she was the main librarian on shift at the moment. The Public Library was surprisingly busy, with students mostly studying for important entrance exams, so she sat at the desk with a copy of Stephen King's Misery in her hands, gently thumbing through the pages and soaking in the plot and characters of the story. This was perhaps one of her favourite novels of all time. Humming lightly to herself, she had barely noticed when three men walked into the library, seemingly on a mission for something. Head snapping up in curiosity, Lexi watched as the tallest male looked to the shortest male and sighed, "Let's just find out what we can and get moving."
"Jeff, dude, it's gonna take a while to find what we need. I don't think they're gonna have files labelled 'FAIRMOUNT' lying around anywhere." The shortest man stated, before looking to the glasses-wearing man and shrugging his shoulders, "What's the plan, Vin?" He questioned. Lexi felt a little smile tug at her lips. Vincent. Not often you'd hear a name as dramatic as that. It seemed to suit him, though. He was average in height, with short dark hair and a beard. He also dawned a septum piercing. Cute.
Raising an eyebrow as she listened to the men talk, she quietly set her copy of Misery to the side and observed as Vincent came up the front desk,
"Hello! Can I help you?" Lexi questioned politely, a welcoming smile dawned on her lips. The glasses-wearing male seemed shy as he spoke,
"Uh, I was wondering, would you by any chance have anything with information on a place named Fairmount? Or, in particular, a guy named Dr. Corenthal?" He asked, much to the female's curiosity. What an odd request,
"Uh, I mean I can certainly check for you! I'll go see if I can find any news articles or something. Is this for a project or something?" Lexi spoke, her curiosity peaked. The man gave a quick nod and shrugged his shoulder, an awkward smile tugging at his lips,
"Thanks so much! And yes, it's a project for my course." The words slipped from his tongue. The female nodded and looked through the boxes behind the counter, they contained all of the newspapers and loose notes that the library had. They still hadn't been properly sorted through, she heaved a sigh and shook her head,
"I'm so sorry this is taking so long, I haven't sorted through these yet. Not enough coffee in the world to make me want to do that in my spare time." She mused, much to Vincent's amusement. The male gave a light laugh in return, which caused her heart to flutter lightly. Lexi, no. Behave. Vincent tilted his head slightly as she pulled out a stack of newspapers and notes, and set them on the counter in front of him,
"These are all from the local area, if there's any information about Fairmount or that guy, it's most likely going to be here! Although, it's worth giving the online files a check through as well. I hope you find what you're looking for!" Lexi stated happily, before picking up her copy of Misery and holding it gingerly in her arms. The male raised an eyebrow,
"Stephen King fan?" He questioned, much to her surprise. She blinked, before smiling once more,
"Yup! Misery. Do you read his novels often?" She asked in return. At this stage, they'd be playing a game of twenty questions. Vincent nodded, seemingly as excited as she was,
"I'm a huge fan. Got most of his novels!"
"Lucky! I'm saving up to buy them all on hardback. I've got Misery, Carrie, The Shining and The Last Stand. Do you have a favourite?" Lexi enquired, the words coming out in a rush, her cheeks slightly flushed. Not only was this Vincent cute, but he was a fan of the master of horror himself!
Vincent couldn't help but grin at the sight of colour on her cheeks, "All of those are classics! And oh, picking a favourite is like pulling teeth." He stated enthusiastically, much to Lexi's adoration,
"Same!" She exclaimed, as they both gave a little giggle in return. Vincent took a breath, and bit his lip before speaking,
"You said there wasn't enough coffee in the world to make you want to sort out those boxes, right? Would you like to go out for a coffee sometime, maybe it'll give you the energy you need?" He chuckled lightly. Lexi scoffed playfully,
"You've won me over. Coffee it is! Here, I'll give you my number." She mused, as she grabbed a notepad and pen, scribbling down her phone number and ripping out the page before folding it and handing it to the man. Vincent's own cheeks were now dusted with a rosy pink,
"Thank you! I'll text you later?" He stated, taking the newspapers and notes as well as the phone number. Lexi simply grinned in response,
"Text me when you're free, and I'll see you around? I hope that you find what you're looking for, for your project!" She spoke happily, as Vincent returned that same eager smile and nodded,
"I'll see you then, and thank you again!" He stated, before making his way over to the other two men who were currently at the computers and seemingly searching for information online. Probably for the same course and information as Vincent. Lexi sighed with content and sat back down into her chair, opening her copy of Misery once more and letting her brain soak back up all of the characters and plot, getting sucked back into the book.
Evan spun around on his chair to meet Vincent's gaze, "Dude, what took you so long?" He questioned, before taking the newspapers and notes out of the man's arms and beginning to read through them. Jeff raised an eyebrow as he glanced up and saw the smile and confident air that radiated from Vincent. This was not an often occurrence.
"What got you so happy?" He asked, as Vincent grinned and folded his arms, a chuckle slipping past his lips,
"I got her number."
