Chance POV
*
"You ready for this?" After waiting almost a week we were finally getting our meeting Ismael Garcia. He's the current leader of the Cartel. He's the one we'll be doing the dealings with.
"Yeah," Jason was nervous, I can tell. He'll be walking into enemy territory. Into the den of the beast. He spent many years hiding from these people. And now, he'll be walking right up to them. "Let's do this. I'm ready to reunite with my family."
"Alright." We walked up to the building and was led inside. We were checked for weapons before being led to his office. Ismael was sitting behind his desk smoking a cigar.
"Chance Delgado," he said grinning. "So good to see you my boy. I'm assuming that case contains my money."
"Yes. All of it." They took the case and began running the money through the cash counter. "If you don't mind me asking, what happened that made the debt a hundred million?"
"Many years ago some reached out to me to make a deal. Big shipment of good stuff. Had my best boys prepare it. But we were led into a trap. My boys locked up, millions of dollars of product ceased. If my boys weren't hard as rocks I could've went down easily. I wanted all their lives but Juliothe big softie decided he'd pay up."
"Did he?"
"Obviously not if you are paying me. He finally got the money and we were going to do the exchange about eight maybe years ago. But the big softie was losing control over his empire and ended up being set up by some gringo negro." Jason and I shared looks.
"Do you remember what the person looked like?"
"Black people, you all look alike. Although, he reminded me of gringo who set my people up many years ago. Can't be same one. Too young. And the other one I killed."
"Wait, YOU killed?! But he was in-"
He smirked. "My boy, we are the largest crime organization in the world. No place is too far out of my grasp. Julio and I made a deal. I kill one gringo negro who caused my men to be incarcerated and I won't look for the other. You must've been his favorite." Oh shit! I think I'm finally starting to understand what's going on. "I tell you my boy because I knew your father. Good man."
"Son cien millones señor," his people said.
"I'm glad we can put this matter behind us. You are free."
"Thank you," we said before leaving. "We have to get back," I said picking up my phone and turning it on. It's been off for safety reasons. I had a bunch of missed calls and voicemails. Maria had been leaving them updating me on everything. The last one was just a couple of days ago.
"Chance, he's coming and I don't think we'll make it out this time. Go protect the children, don't worry about us. I love you so much okay? Be safe."
"Shit!" I cursed.
"What's going on?" Jason asked.
"They're in trouble. And I don't know if they're even a-fucking-live anymore." What the hell can I do man?
"Chance, there's a reason Juliopicked you. There's a reason he wanted you to run everything. We can't let them die." I sighed. The only thing I can think about is Carmela. Her birthday is next month man. I'm supposed to be stressing out about what to do for her first birthday. Not whether or not I'll make it to then. "Chance!"
