Out of 40 students. 16 unconscious, several injured and one missing. After that, the students were sent home and media had been all over the place. Shoto and I spent most of our days with his mother and my grandmother until we wait for news from the school about what to do. While Shoto and his mother speak privately, grandma and I do the same in the garden.
"I...he was right there..me and Shoto were so close to grabbing him."
"Deary. You can't do this to yourself. You did all you could in the situation with what power you had less. In just a few days, they strengthened you to which is why you didn't pass out! If you did, you wouldn't have been able to save even one of them."
"Grandma, there's something else. Even after I used Spartan, I felt an urge not even close to the Spartan. It was darker, faster and much more precise." After I said that she just stared at me with wide eyes as she smiled.
"No worries deary, you'll see soon enough. For these next few days, you need to rest. Train only little at the max alright."
"Yes, ma'am. Hey grandma, one more thing."
"What is it?"
"What was mom like...when she was a hero..?" I turn and look at her, but I can feel myself tremble. I can see the sorrow in her eyes at the mention of her own daughter as she looks at me. She smiles and hugs me gently as I do so back gripping her tight as I fall to my knees.
"She was a strong and gentle heart. Helping all in her way. She had her bad days where she couldn't save everyone, but you can't save everyone no matter how strong you're will is, sweetheart. She knew that but continued to try anyway. If she was here now, she'd tell you this..."
Flashback
"Mama! Mama! Where are you going?"
"Hello, my little light. I'm heading out. As a hero, people need me to protect them. I won't be long I promise. I'll be back to play with you soon."
"But what if you get hurt and daddy can't get to you in time?" I could feel my small hands grip her tightly around her waist as my eyes look up at her and I can feel her hands on my head as she squats down to my height.
"Oh, little light. I'll be okay and your father will reach me no matter where I am. He'd do the same for you."
"But there are big bullies out there..and they hurt people. What if they hurt you?"
"Then I'll take the hit if that means someone else didn't get hurt. That's what it means to do what I do, sweetie. To protect above all else. And no worries, your mother is really strong and can beat the bad bullies no matter what."
"Agent Enigma, we need you! Now!" I hear her earpiece go off as she held it to listen closer. She smiles at me and kisses my head gently and rushes out. I could hear my grandmother behind me as she places her hand on my shoulder and leads me back into the kitchen.
"She'll be alright, right grandma?"
"Your mother may be the most sacrificial person I know, deary, but she will come back to you no matter what."
"What does...sac cry fic cal...mean?" She stops suddenly realizing what she said and hurries to find the right words.
"Does it mean she may...go away for a long time like grandpa?" She turns her head to me with a sad look at the mention of him.
"In a way...yes it does. She'd do anything to protect the ones she loves and even those that she's never met before. To protect the people, sweetheart, is to sacrifice what you value most even if it means going away for a long time like grandpa." She speaks slowly, making sure I understood what she was saying. I nodded as I poked at my food and I feel her kiss my head as she sets some juice down.
