They Adopted Me

Introductions pt. 2

...Joan and Talyn. They were both in front of Thomas's door."Joan, Talyn. What's up?" he said. There was a small gasp, then there was a sound that sounded like something heavy fell. There was groan following after."Shit!!! I'm okay landed on the pillow on the floor," shouted Alex. She got up and went to the sink to wash her bowl of cereal.

"So why are you here," Thomas asked.

"We're here to invite you and the kid to the beach. To meet everyone," Joan answered

"Great idea, I'll talk to her," said Thomas.

Before he could even go talk to Alex, Riley came."Yay, the beach," she shouted."Riley!!!" exclaimed Alex. She ran to the living room."Oh, hi. Riley, how many times have I told you not to run of like that," she scolded.

Both Talyn and Joan were both surprised to see two of the same girl."Can ask you something?" asked Alex shyly. Joan and Talyn nodded."Are you two dating?" there was a squeak in the last word. Joan laughed."Was it that obvious," he joked as he raised his and Talyn's interlocked hands.

Alex let out a yes and punched the air."Ohh Vera," she called. A girl poped out of no where, and she seemed pretty bothered. She groaned as she slapped two five dollars bills in Alex's hand."Stupid bet, stupid ego," she grumbled under her breath. Alex laughed, then Penny came out. She was shy, that was obvious when she squeaked and hide behind Alex."Since everyone is out you can say hi," Alex whispered to Penny. She slowly made her way in front of Joan and Talyn.

She slowly extended her hand and Talyn took it. She smiled and gave her a quiet 'hi'."Um, Thomas?" Joan said. Thomas , who was to busy being seeing this whole fiasco unfold, looked up. Joan made a gestures to the girls in front of him and Talyn."She has sides," was all he said. Joan and Talyn made an 'oh' shape with their mouth.

They soon sat down and sorted everything out. The sides of Alex left, seeing as they already met everyone. They talked for what seemed like hours, but it was actually just one. They all agreed to go to the beach. Talyn and Joan were ready so they just waited for Alex and Thomas.

Once they decided this Thomas and Alex went upstairs. Thomas came down with a backpack and swimming trunks with a red shirt. They then just waited for Alex. After hearing voices speaking they looked up."I'm going to check up on her," said Talyn, already walking upstairs. Talyn followed the voices and that led her to Alex's room. She looked inside, making sure to make no noise.

She found a very nervous and scared Alex sitting on her bed. She seemed to be talking to a figure. She was saying something about if she actually wanted to go. She said something about if they see 'them'. Pressing her head against the door, Talyn stumbled into the room. Two heads whipped who see entered the room.

"Hey," said Talyn awkwardly.

"Hey," responded Alex.

"Awkward, I'm going to leave. You guys sort things out. Alex tell her," said Penny.

They felt a gush of wind and Penny was gone. Where Penny was Talyn moved."You know you don't have to go if you feel uncomfortable," she said. Alex was quite for a few seconds."I just don't want you guys to see my... my scars. The ones I got and made myself," she said. Talyn eyes widen. She was shocked to find a 12 year doing self harm. But what she went through, she got it. She didn't know what to say she did instead.

She wrapped her arms around her. She could feel her tense, bit slowly ease up. She soon wrapped her arms around her to and buried her face in Talyn's sweater. There was a muffled 'thank you' and a smile came from Talyn face. She pulled away from the hug and she wiped away the tears from Alex's eyes."You don't have to go into the water, Thomas told us what happened. You can stay on the beach or in the car ok," Talyn suggest. Alex swallowed the lump in her throat and nodded slowly.

They both got up and went down stairs. Thomas and Joan looked relieved and they got in the car.

~Time skip to beach~

Alex was nervous for the first few minutes, but then everyone began to greet her. They said jokes and played around, Alex eased up. They played around and Alex even got in the water. Of course she had her shirt on, she wasn't ready for people to see her scars.

It was already 3, but the beach got a bit more crowded. Some people must have noticed Thomas. Because there was soon a crowd around Thomas, who was talking with Alex. Everyone was closing in and making a lot of noise. It didn't turn her anxiety up yet though. Until someone accidentally touched her scar on her back, the worse part is they were soaking wet. That scared her, and sent her into a anxiety attack.

Everything seemed to slow down and get blurry. Then her lungs seemed to work against her. Fear held over her, she stumbled out of the crowd. A few feet away there was a small cave. She walked in and fell to her knees, taking in shallow breaths. Thomas saw and soon followed after her. Once inside he saw a small girl on the ground. He fell to his knees and looked at her. She lifted her head and like he spoke to her Thomas new she was having an anxiety attack.

"Five things you can see," Thomas said. Talyn taught ways to deal with an anxiety attack. This would help her. Alex seem to know what he was doing."You, the sand, the ocean, the rock walls, and the y-your t-shirt," she answered.

"Four things you can touch," he said.

"Your skin, the sand on my arms, the cold and the water," continued.

"Three things you can hear," he said.

"Your voice, the waves, and the crowd," she listed.

"Two things you can smell," he went on.

"The water and your mint breathe," she said.

"One thing you taste," he finished.

"The salt," she concluded.

The whole time she had her head down, looking at her hands. But once done she looked up. Her eyes looked like fragile glass. Thomas tackled her in a bear hug. Alex was caught off guard, but slowly wrapped her arms around him and nuzzled her face into his shirt. Tears streamed down her face."Sorry if I ruined your day," she said, muffled by the sweater. Thomas only hugged her tighter."You don't have to be sorry for something you no control over, and you didn't ruin my day," he said. There was a half sob and laugh that came out of Alex.

They soon got up and went outside, which they meet a worried Talyn and Joan. They told them what happened and gave Alex a big hug. By five 'o clock. The sun was setting and they got in the car. Alex was near the window. She had it opened, it was hitting her hair. She had a tank top on, but had no sweater on. She was fine if they saw her scars, they already saw her at her worse. They deserved to see her scars and herself.

When they got home they dropped off Alex and Thomas. Once in bed Alex thought today was a good day.
