Ginny sat on her bed that night unable to sleep. She kept being called to her wand. She wanted to cast spells with it and do all the cool things that her older brothers did. Ginny held the wand in her hands and traced the carved bottom with her fingers. Yew, the rare and poisonous wand wood. Ginny smiled. She was going to be awesome.

Ginny woke up with her wand held close to her chest. The tip was glowing slightly, a dimmer version of the glow that it had had when it chose her. She smiled. Her own wand.

"Ginny?" Mum knocked on her door. "Ginny dear, you missed breakfast; I've got a plate waiting for you!"

"Sorry Mum, coming."

Ginny rubbed her eyes and wondered how late she had been up last night. As she pulled her clothes on, there was another knock on her door.

"I'm coming!"

"Gin, it's me."

Ginny hurriedly pulled on her pants and opened the door. Draco came in and sat down on her bench.

"Sorry about Lucius yesterday," he said. "I expected him to go after me and not you and your dad."

"It's okay. It was kinda cool to see Dad attack someone. It was also kinda scary though. I've never seen him so angry before."

"You know what's funny?" Draco asked. "Lucius was only mildly upset," he said dryly.

"Really? He looked so mad."

"You haven't even seen the start of it," Draco said, a bit too knowingly.

Ginny stayed silent for a moment, wondering whether to ask her question. Finally, she decided to just get it over with.

"Did he ever hurt you?"

Draco looked away. "Yeah, sometimes. Only when I was naughty, and Narcissa always healed me afterwards."

"Well, I'm glad you're here now."

"... Me too."

"GINEVRA! BREAKFAST IS GETTING COLD!"

"I'M COMING!"

Ginny left her room and ran down the stairs. She found a plate of sausages on the table in front of her seat. She sat down and picked up her utensils to eat but dropped them after a shout was heard.

"ARTHUR WEASLEY YOU STOP MESSING WITH THAT CAR!"

Ginny rolled her eyes and began to eat her sausage. There was a loud explosion from upstairs and Fred and George entered the kitchen a moment later.

"Where's Mum?"

"Garage with Dad."

"Okay, cool." They both ran back up the stairs. Ginny sighed. She wished she could have been up there with them to see what they were doing. She always liked hanging out with them.

Once she was finished eating, Ginny put her plate in the sink and headed outside. Draco, Ron, and Harry were sitting on her favorite hill, talking about something that was making them laugh. Ginny decided that she didn't want to intrude and turned to go sit on her second favorite hill, the one near the woods. Maybe she'd actually go in the woods. It was a nice quiet place.

Ginny climbed the steep hill and stepped between the trees surrounding the edge of the woods. A nice breeze came by and Ginny shook herself out. She made her way to the far off rocks and climbed up to the top to sit down. Through the trees she had a nice view of the countryside surrounding her house. There weren't very many houses nearby, but if she squinted, Ginny could see the Diggory house.
