AN: I am so sorry for taking so long. Just remember if I do that again, I'm not a quitter, so this book will have a 'completed' tag on it before I stop writing it entirely. Well, enjoy, and look forward to more chapters soon!Hi Tom, Ginny wrote. She watched as the words faded.
Hello again, Ginny.
I'm scared, Tom. I woke up this morning standing up.
Tom took an extra second to answer.
That's interesting. Do you sleepwalk?
Not that I know of.
Perhaps you went to the bathroom and only fully woke up after.
Maybe. Or maybe I was going to go to the bathroom. I had to go when I woke up.
That could be it. I'm sure it's nothing.
Yeah, you're right. Thanks.
Any time, Ginny.
Ginny set her diary down and looked over to where Luna was still asleep in the pool. Was sleeping underwater comfortable? Luna seemed to sink just enough to be fully submerged, but not rest on the bottom. Her hand was out of the water, resting on Ginny's bed. Was she trying to hold her hand?
Standing up, Ginny walked back over to her bed and sat down. She reached out and took Luna's hand, and Luna gripped it even in her sleep. Was Luna paler than normal? Or was that just a trick of the light?
Ginny looked down at the fish swimming around in the pool. They were all near Luna. The other side of the pool was empty. Ginny supposed that made sense. Fish probably liked mermaids, even the half ones. Did mermaids eat fish? Would they eat anything else, or were they vegetarian? Ginny had so many questions. She just didn't want to overload Luna with them. Maybe Luna wouldn't mind the questions. Or maybe she could ask Tom. He had mentioned knowing a half mermaid and her mate. He might know some answers. Of course, she couldn't ask him now. Luna hadn't let go, so Ginny couldn't go get the diary.
"What are you thinking about?"
Ginny jerked out of her thoughts. "You're awake?"
"Yes," Luna said with a small smile. "I have been for a few minutes now. I didn't want to disturb your thoughts."
"They weren't very important," Ginny said. "Just more questions about being your mate and everything. Mermaids are more complex than I would have thought."
"How so?"
"Do they eat fish?"
"Of course. They need protein like anyone else."
"Then why do the fish like them so much?"
"Oh, they only eat the ones that would die either way. The old ones, the sick ones, the weak ones."
Ginny nodded. "I guess that makes sense. So why are mermaids pink?"
"That's a good question," Luna said. "I'm not actually sure. Perhaps it's because pink is such a lovely color."
"Is it your favorite?"
"No, my favorite color is actually brown."
"Brown?" Ginny asked. "I'm surprised. You normally wear pastels."
"Well," Luna said with a grin, "brown isn't that fun to wear, now is it? It's much more suited for a hair color or an eye color. It's a shame I have neither."
"You wanted brown hair?"
"Or eyes, like you. I find them entrancing."
Ginny flushed a little. "Really?"
